Council tax will next year be raised on average in England by 12.9%. Councils are blaming the Gov for cutting funding whilst the Gov as always says nothing to do with them.

The average council tax has gone up over 70% since labour came to power with some peoples tax like myself more than doubling to well over £1000.

In England the average Band D house pays over £1000. and are the services provided any better. No, not as far as I can tell anyway.

services have gone down fella....

I now get 52 bin bags... 1 for each week of the year. me and the misses use about 3 a week so god knows what the average family uses...

read in the local paper the other day, because some1 didnt put there bins at the end of the drive and onto the street the bin man wouldnt pick it up. they know this because the bin man made the effort to walk down the drive and post a note though the letter box.... but didnt make the effort to pick up the bins at the same time... how friggin stupid is that..

If u wanna play tennis where I live u have to pay too. cant just walk in a park like the good ole days and have a game on a free court.. ohhh no £5 for an hour.. WTF...

yep, we got our 'allocation' of bin bags too, quite literally as we used the last one.
Had we stayed in our flat, the council tax rise would have been 16% increase from 2002-2003 in band C.

I'd love to make a stand against this - we pay £120 pm as opposed to £50 6 years ago. I play 5 aside on a Monday evening at the local leisure centre. Outdoor pitches are £27 per hour as opposed to £14 5 year ago. We live on a nice pretty estate where the devlopers have put in trees\bushes etc, but they are overgrown with grass and weeds.

Trouble is making a stand means debt collectors, ccj's and a fecked credit rating.

I would not feel so bad about paying it if i felt the money was being spent wisely and to the benefit of the people. Personally i do not and i begrudge paying it.

Chip - if you re-read what i put then i think you'll find i do not feel it is being spent wisely, far from it in fact!

Our council tax is now £ 1180.00 p.a. for this i get a understaffed Police force hell bent on proscecutng the motorist (directives from up on high and i do not hold the cops on the street to blame in any way). I see more traffic wardens on my streets than i do Police on my streets.

I get 52 bin bags -there are three of us in the house!

I get a council hell bent on generating as much revinue from speed cameras.
There is now hardly any free parking in Northampton town, now all council controlled - more revinue.

not sure what else i get but it is not much.

I reported fly tipping to the council hot line, this was a 7.5 tonne flatbed being unloaded into a lay-by FFS, i had descriptions, registrations etc. - took them two weeks to respond and then to ask for the informtion again as they had misplaced it!
Stil not action taken.

We have crappy roads, dangerous, pavements, no-go areas in town due to drugs, prostitution and other reasons i will not go into.

Northampton Borough Council has little to shout about IMHO

We've had angle-grinder-man......what we need now is council-tax-man.

I suppose a striped t shirt and a bag with swag on it would be an approriate costume...

The only way to counter the rises is mass protest.

If people refuse to pay the tax, something will be done.

Stinks of the old poll tax tbh. Everyone gets screwed.

I for one would stand up for my rights. I will happily join a protest.

and to think, the silly buggers across the country moaned about the poll tax - doesn't seem so silly now, does it?

Quite apart from the outrageous stealth tax raises this represents, why should I have to pay double what people elsewhere pay, just because I live in a city with higher old people/ povs (Glasgow) - I don't have to pay 2x as much for gas, electric or any other services, so why more for this?

One size fits all with capped rises held in check by a regulator has to be the way forward. Time to privatise the councils, perhaps?

Paul,
My apologies.I'll read things thru properly in future.

My council has recently spent £90000 on painting a red strip 0.8 metres wide along the main road where I live for cylists. I pointed out to my councillor that whole estate where I live has dual footways running through it. One for pedestrians ,the other for cyclists. Hence no-one uses the red cycleway. Apart from the fact that its too bloody dangerous anyway. He told that council has to do it as it a central Gov ruling that originates from the EU. FFS why?

This is what was bound to happen when people voted high tax, high spend labour in (twice!) We stopped them robbing any more off us at the pumps, so they have changed tactic now.
Of course they are spending it all wisely

I wish I paid £1100 a year I was paying £180 for 10 months (why not 12 ??), Last year they put it up by £300 a year because we know have more facalties (a play ground and village hall), the playground was deemed dangerous and never opened, an you have to pay £36 per hour to rent a room in the village hall.

im up for a protest (and I didnt vote these labour wasters in either).

A demonstration/riot is the way to go. It cracked the poll tax, and it would crack the council tax.

I reckon the poll tax should return.
After all why should I pay more than a bloke who earns the same as me but chooses to live in a council house and **** all his money up the wall.
