what to do if unhappy with insurance company???

does anyone know if there is any organisation that you can write to and complain if you are unhappy with the way that your car insurance company is dealing with an accident case????
the insurance company we use are being completely useless and taking the pi55 BIG time now about an accident case (which has been going round in circles for a year now) and we were wondering if theres anywhere that we can go to to either make a formal complaint against the company, or get the case sorted out by someone who knows what on earth they are doing??
anyone have any experience of this?? or any knowledge of this kind of thing???
any help is really appreciated. we are going mad over this!!

Call your ins co and ask them how you go about making a formal complaint. Take everyones name that you speak to and tell them you are recording all conversations. Usually gives them good motivation to get things sorted.

Insurance Ombudsman or GISC (if they're a member of the latter that is)
The GISC were being replaced so check with Citizens Advice (I think they may be coming under the care of the FSA at some point).
Good luck

cheers fb.
they really are taking the pi55. just wish that making a complaint to them would actually kick their asses into gear....but i doubt that they'll even care.

had the same problem (discussed on here at length) and now i dealt the final blow - wise up or i'll take small claims court action, well, gave them 14 days to reply and that has now come and gone so i'm gonna go ahead with the action. ********.
also gonna complain to the ombudsman (but they do say u have to start a formal complaint against the company first)

You have to go through whatever complaint procedure your insurance company has in place.
Call them up and tell them that you wish to make a formal complaint and require a copy of their complaints procedure. This in itself WILL make them buck their ideas up.
If things don't improve once you have recieved the procedure, follow it to the letter, but push it through as quickly as possible. They will almost certainly sort out your complaint.
If they still don't satisfy you, or they fail to respond within 8 weeks you can go to the Financial Ombudsman who have taken over from the Insurance Ombudsman. Take a good look at their website, it has all the info you need.
I spent 9 months battling Tesco's Insurance and beleive me, as soon as you start to talk about formal complaints and the Financial Ombudsman they get their asses into gear.

Thanks a lot guys.
In process of raising a complaint against the insurance company and getting the name and address of senior management to write a formal letter of complaint to.
if that doesnt work...then we'll be off to the higher associations to complain BIG time.
thanks again.
