I have just started wearing these lenses and I have been advised that they are 30 day lenses -after which they should be discarded.Does the 30 days refer to the wearing of the lenses 30 times or does it mean that once the pack is opened the lenses have a usable life of 30 days?

I'd say usable life of 30 days. Because they are mainly made of water, they start to shrink after a while . . . As do the lenses. I wouldn't put in a pair of lenses that have been opened for 6 months.

I disagree They mean a wearable life - ie discard after 30 days of wearing. So, they could last 6 months if you only wear them occasionally. Whilst not being worn, they need to be stored in a case in some solution, as per any other lenses.

Entitled to their opinion . . . even if it is wrong
Personally, I throw then away after 30 days regardless. One, because I pay by standing order and have the next batch delivered anyway. So may as well use the new ones. Two, The cleaning solutions for soft lenses are not as strong as for hard lenses and therefore I would not trust them to remove protein and other nasties for an extended length of time. Just my opinion.

It certainly is 30 days of actual useage according to theopticians I used when I had those type of lenses. As long as the lenses are stored and cleaned correctly and that you don't leave them for too long like that, then they will be fine.
