Calorific values for calculating gas units
#1
Any idea why these change from month to month and even within a month?
Just been checking my gas consumption for the year with my online account at Scottish Power and the value changes all the time, 40.1, 40.3, 40.6 have all been used.
Is it something to do with the time of the year?
April used a figure of 40.1, May and most of June, 40.3, then back down to 40.1 from 15 - 27 June, then changed it to 40.3 from 28 June onwards. Then it jumped up to 40.6 from end of July
Anyone work in the gas industry and can provide an answer please....

The calorific value is calculated at the point of entry into the terminal ie Bacton, St Fergus. This will vary slightly as the gas from different fields will have differing calorific values.
Obviously if the CV is different this will affect the overall efficiency of the burning of the gas.
The point of entry onto the shore and the transportation of your gas is traceable so the CVs you are quoted on your bill will be correct and very accurate.
