Best Way To Learn Another Language (French)?
#1
Barring actually living in France, what's the best way to learn French?
I was taught it for a couple of years while I was at school but never had any interest and so learnt stuff all - the school's method was just too boring and so I never paid any sort of attention.
Next year I'm going to be spending quite a lot of time in France and so would like to get a good grounding of the language before then.
Have any of you lot learnt French using the courses advertised on tv? (you're usually given a number of cassettes and you then repeat what said on them)
I don't want to attend any night school courses as I'm too busy, but if there is a self teach method available I'd be interested to hear your thoughts...
Thanks!
Andy.

i hate that PC software.
I find the best way is with a class of other people, and then putting it into practice in france for a few days on holiday (then you know what you need to learn, like useful words eg. sansplomb).
I now have an A in GCSE French

I learnt it from paul daniels magic tapes.
this is no joke.
it was just like that!
anyway it's hypnotising
and it works.
it goes something like this:
imagine a van sinking in the mud.
french for 25 is vingt cinq
which sounds like van sank
the van sank in the mud
you will hear it once and never ever forget it.
look for them on ebay maybe
its been a few years scince i learnt french from them.
after that i moved there.
it is great place if you want to get out of the rat race!

Thanks for the advice guys!
looossseeerrr - I actually have the tapes you have spoken about My dad bought them years ago so I'm not 100% sure that they will still work, but I'm going to give them a listen to them tomorrow.
If there's any more advice I'm all ears!
Thanks!
Andy.
