im going to hand in my 1 months notice in a bit to my new boss (who is also a director of the company).
im really nervous about doing it especially if i have to go and talk to the MD as well. - hes a very intimidating bloke and i know is going to make my life hell for the next month.
i feel sick in my belly

Good luck- and don't worry about them making your life hell, once you've handed in your notice you have the upper hand! Tell em to **** off if they treat you bad just because of that, stand up and walk out.

If you're lucky they will pay you a month's salary and tell you to go now. If you don't post again we'll know that's what has happened
Good luck...

Sooz, don't take any rubbish. I walked out of a company a few days after handing in a month's notice because the MD became a total git once I told him I was leaving. They then refused to pay me for my notice period, so I took them to an employment tribunal on the grounds they'd made it impossible for me to work out my notice. I got paid in full for a month that I didn't have to work.
They don't have any rights to make your life hell just because you want to leave.

cheers guys. am shaking and feel really awful for leaving the people i like here in the lurch. but im very very happy that i only have a month left in this hell hole
just done it. Told my new boss who was very nice and understanding about the whole situation.
its when he tells the MD that im sh1tting it.
he is a complete w*nker and has acted like a child with other people who have left (5 in the last 2 months alone!).
im hoping that he'll tell me to leave asap with a months wages...but i seriously doubt hed be that nice. he'll want to keep me here and then just make my life a misery for the last month.
as the only person left in the test team here...me leaving is gonna **** up the company..but surely when a whole team leave in a month of each other...youd think hed get the hint!!!

I once handed in my notice and was escorted off the premises instantly "Go collect your things, do not touch your computer, and leave." was the reply. I was really happy not to have to work with that arrogant idiot for rest of the month, but I had to call a couple of friends on the continent to get them to disconnect my ssh sessions for me, since I couldn't touch my sparc I was also threatened with non-payment but they soon realised how stupid they were. That was an awful job for me and they made me as uncomfortable as possible after handing in my notice despite not even being there, threatening to get me back into the office to finish off work and all sorts. Haha. Good luck to you

Good luck with your change of direction, as to worrying, I have been on both sides, sacked/ made redundant/ asked to leave & now I am a company director. Doesnt sound like your place is muck cop to work at, however if u r good at your job and your MD has a brain, always worth pre-empting a situation just in case u r more valued than u think?? I had to work 2 weeks out of 4 (minus paid holidays) and after the first couple of hellish days, just took 2hr lunch breaks at the local pub and came in blasted-for some reason the powers that be then left me alone!!
