Speed camera's...have i been caught???
#1
Hi everyone...
i was on a dual carriageway today....going back into a a road..so the limit on the carriage way would be 70 then into a sixty.
there was a moblie camera unit..nice dark blue in the side of road near some bushes, back doors open you know th type.
how do these things work??? do they have to measure your distance or can it asses your speed as soon as it sees you??
i was doing 90mph coming off the corner then backed off a little, saw van and anchored up..down to about 65.
i turned round and went back up the raod and drove towards camera to see how far he could see me, now he might of spotted me at ninety but with me braking heavly will the cam be able to asses speed correctly????
next question..if i have been knicked what sort of fine and points should i expect doing 85/90 in a 60????
any advice would be aprreciated. just have to wait for postman now.
cheers Lee

Unlucky mate, I've had a few close calls recently when I've been out and about in my van, don't speed in that anymore, its cheaper
I nearly got caught in my car on a certain part of the A6 just outside town yesterday (going north ).
He probably got you though, don't know about the penalty, I think you should be ok with just points and a fine if you are 30mph under the limit, (IIRC athough that could just apply on m/ways).
They get the finger off me everytime I go past one

Every long distance trip I have done lately I have seen at least 1 of these van's, even on motorways etc. How come they can be totally (well not visible from a distance) unmarked while Gatso's have to be flourescent(?) yellow now?
Has anyone been done by one of these vans?

Hold up hope... have been in the same situation a few times.... normally in retrospect you feel like you were going faster than you were, I have done the old turn round and revisit the "scene of the crime" thing a few times too. I reckon if you anchored it in advance of the trap then you should be ok, especially if there was other traffic around you.
The only way to be sure is hold your breath for the next 14 days though, best of luck!

I saw one of these revenue collection vehicles parked in a layby. A white van with a small square hole in the back. So I parked right behind to obstruct his view. I was told rather rudely to move on. Of course I refused. I was then told that they'd get the police involved. Knowing I wasn't doing anything wrong I just waited there until THEY moved on. It wasn't as if it was an accident blackspot. It was a straight on a dual carraigeway with a 50 limit.
