How do...
What gets me in the UK is that you I go in to a bakers in Derby and ask for a roll and she doesn't understand me..it's a batch down there. Then I go to Coventry and it's a cobb. In aberdeen they call it something stupid as well.
If I put a cup of tea on in yorkshire its a brew, in Derby I would be 'mashing'.
Can anyone think of any other stupid colloquialisms (i can only surmise that they are designed to oust German sleeper agents from WWII, commies or general foreigners?!)

It's an interesting topic. However it caught my attention only because it is so obviously in the wrong forum.
Seing as you are new here I thought I'd mention that...just before I report it to be moved.
Oh, and make sure you never call a woman a 'cow' in Durham...much much stronger word oop there than down 'ere in sunny London.

Col,
I think you've got that wrong a bit. I live in Leicester, where a roll is called a Cob (asked for this while in the Smoke and they thought I wanted a Corn on the Cob ). It's called a Batch in Coventry were I work. I mean, WTF is that....?

I'm from Barnsley where its a Crumpet, Mrs Eddie is from Rotherham and she won't budge from saying Pieclet.
Its sad..... but it bugs me.

Go a fish shop (or chippie!!!) - lots of variations of pattie/fritter/fish cakes depending on where you are.
That one about the roundabouts threw me. I live in Hartlepool - where we call a roundabout a, er, roundabout. Went to visit some friends in Leicester - told to turn left at first island. I was looking for one of thos slabs of concrete with a bollard type thing in the middle of the road - drove an extra 10 miles before I realsied they meant a roundabout.
Here's another one - if go to an ice cream van and want of the darker type cones - what do you call them? We call them a hard cornet - other places call them sugar cones.
England - don't ya just love it?

What about the "10 foot" !?!? Well, that's what Hullies call an alley way!
Very strange!
Also, when I first started working up here I went to our canteen and the lady said "you want out?". I said no, I would like to eat in. She repeated herself and eventually I understood she meant "would you like any sustenance old chap?".
VERY confusing!
