Speeding in residential areas!!!
#1
Why is that people feel the need to speed at residential areas?
Where i live has quite a good and wide stretch of road (park on left and nursing home on right)and it is pissing me off seeing all those speeders driving without regard for the safety of children and OAPs
the long straight ends with a 90 degree bend and last week a show boating saxo (not local i guess) flew past while i was chatting to a bunch of kids by the roadside and guess what? did not brake in time and went into a treeat the bend.
we pissed ourselves laughing and didnt even bothered to see if they were ok. i know it bad but cant be arsed with drivers who sees children running and cycling nearby and still decide to do 50-60mph. tw*ts!
speed bumps come to mind...

My theory as to "why" is because the sensation of speed in a residential area is that much greater, hence the "buzz" increases.
Also, there are obviously more people around to "impress". And the roads are generally more "challenging" than your average straight A-road.
It's a shame we can't have some sort of virtual RTA training - i think that would make a few of these people slow down. Most people who have actually been involved in a residential accident learn their lesson.
But i couldn't advocate speed bumps, i bloody hate them myself...

Perhaps if the local council didn't put speed bumps in areas where it is safe to speed, they wouldn't do it.
In plymouth behind a complex there is a nice straight round which is never used for anything, by people or vehicles, so the cruisers decided to use it as a drag strip. Council find out about this put humps there so they now speed in nice straight residential strips. Real clever council.

I think educating the drivers better is the way forward
speed cameras dont work you just slow down at that point on the road
speed bumps dont work you just slow down to go over then speed up again
chicanes are the worst you just race the other cars to get there first regardless of who should go first

Our local council put speed humps and chicanes into a local road, now the locals want them removed because at night the local kids use the humps to see if they can launch there cars into the air.

P*** off Ian. I could say something along the lines of "grow up", but that'd be a cheap shot
You are probably quite right, and actually I do need to grow up, I am 15 and don't drive. There are also no problems in my local residential area so maybe I don't know the problems.
On reflection maybe I am wrong
Hopefully you can accept my appology

take it easy ppl. my post was just to rant abt this issue.
there r many ways of tackling the problem but the fact that we r almost powerless to do anything until some accident actually happens disappoints me.
at least, i'm not the only one who feels this way.
cheers ppl.

Personally, speed bumps don't bother me, as my daily run-about doesn't seem to be bothered at how fast I go over them
30mph - no probs. Although the tow hitch grounds at 35mph, so they still keep me within legal limits
I'm not saying that I'm trying to launch the thing or anything or intentionally driving like that, I just can't be arsed to slow down, speed up, slow down etc.
Back onto the speeding issue... The only way to slow people down is educate them so they are aware of the environment around them, and the possible situations, and consequences that will occur if they drive to fast in built-up areas.
