I've got a really sharp pain behind my left shoulder, couldn't sleep last night because of it, and today, every time i breath in, my chest hurts on the left hand side.

someone said it could be wind.. but i have no idea, all i know is it f**king hurts..

PS.. i'm 22 and in good health.

Anyone any suggestions.. or if it's wind what i can take?

Are you fairly tall and thin?

It's most likely to be wind, but it could be a spontaneous pneumothorax if you're male, lanky and young. Are you getting short of breath on exertion?

If you don't have a cough/aren't bringing up any nasty green/brown sputum it won't be a pneumonia.

Any long trips recently? Last thing to rule out is a pulmonary embolism, but you'd be in a worse state rpobably if you're getting that much pain.

Arf - one more - any unaccustomed exercise? Could be an intercostal muscle tear.

More likely wind or indigestion.

May even be constipation.

There is such a thing as a "mucus bridge" that can block one passage in a lung and cause pain with breathing, but those never last long.

Avi,

First thing is don't panic; you've probably just pulled a muscle in your back.

I did this a few weeks back after overdoing things in the gym. I was fine, then woke up the next morning with a severe pain behind my right shoulder blade. Like you everytime I breathed in my chest hurt like hell (like I was having a heart attack). It eased off over the next day or so and I just went along to my physio for some work on my back. I was back to normal in another day or so.

If it's not eased off go along to your Doc to set your mind at ease and a quick check-over.

What are you doing posting on Scoobynet for a medical opinion? Phone NHS direct, and speak to someone who actually has medical training, or see your doctor. Visit the local hospital walk-in centre. Scoobynet isn't the fountain of all knowledge...

MMMmmm, perhaps he's died on us.

Seriously tho ring the NHS direct Number. I had the same symptins as you back in March. On phoning the Docs call out service and explaining in detail my symptons I was told to sit down quietly as there was an emergency ambulance on the way. Sure enouigh 5 mins later in come two paramedics carrying Oxygen and all the bits. After spending 30 mins in ambulance outside the house where they gave me aspirin first, then ECG and put a line in my arm.

Was then transferred to hospital where I was treated for a blood clot on the lung and pneumonia.

I was in pain for a few says before this but just like most things it would go away. It didnt. Was put on pain killers as well as I could hardly breath I was in so much pain.

See your Doc ASAP.

Chip.

Hardly touchy, I'm just surprised at the number of morons willing to pay more money for inferior cars. However, we're way o/t here.

Just to back up SkodaMan (got rid of my Scoob for a Tavia RS ), a quote from wrc.com :

Forget wide-boy Imprezas and lary Mitsubishi Evos. Many of them are driven by men with small genitalia. The thinking man’s performance car has now got to be a Skoda Octavia vRS.
Anyway, back on topic, hope you're OK Avi!

That wasn't a dig at Subarus, which I happen to think are performance bargains (if expensive to run). The point is it's stupid to poke fun at Skodas. If you're going to poke fun, do it at the imbecile who pays 20K+ for a BMW 316.

Update - Been to see one of the consultants at work (I conveniently turned up to setup his email calendars that he's been waiting for for weeks ), slightly concerned me that he rushed me straight through to the major area of a&e, but i was put on a heart monitor and had bp done, chest exam etc.. and all seems fine, doc suggested it may be a cracked rib (which they can't do anything for, and don't usually show on xray), and a chest infection which is causing pleutonic pain (whatever that is?) in my shoulder and side.. anyway, he's given me some codeine phosphate, and some ibruprofen to get me nice and high, and i'll go and see him again if it doesn't improve.

If i have cracked a rib, i don't know exactly when, but with a mad holiday to magaluff the other week, there was plenty of drunken brawling, and it was on my return, i had the chest infection.

Slightly relieved now, after some of the above comments
