Question

I just called up b and q and surprise surprise there are no air conditioning units in any store in the land or online. Since wickes have a crap website and homebase is usually not working, does any1 have any suggestions as to where i may locate an air con unit (household not motor) either nationally or local to luton. cheers.

Hello

Homebase do have a relatively cheap one for £200 I think. So it may be worth popping into a local store.

The link to the product is here: http://www.homebase.co.uk/is-bin/INT...AAAADzANJLUL7K

It doesn't work because the company uses useless intershop product...

Enter Huxley Stage left someone mention Aircon

What are you after portable of fixed unit"split system"

You can pay up to £600 for a good quality portable unit or £200 for a B&Q job then you can pay Justabout £300 and have a fixed split unit like these

Then it's just the fitting cost after that.

Or you can have a Multi split unit for about £900 + fitting like this

Have you seen the price of a Delonghi unit on the Celingfans web site £1500 king ell IIRC most of them use same components out of the same jap factory

I have nothing to do with Chigo just going to be one of there happy customers

Question

Question.

Just looking at http://www.chigoac.co.uk/index.html?...tml&lang=en-gb

How do they work? Do you just buy it and plug it into the mains and mount it on your wall (at home) or do you need an outside compressor etc? Like you see on American DIY shows.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I havent a clue how house air con works? Im guessing its just an all in one unit?

They are in two bits one unit on the wall inside and one unit outside they require a mains cable between the two and a bit of plumbing as in insulated pipework between the two units sorry not just plug in.

If you want the just the plug in type look here and then look at these then look at the price £1250 but they have to be within 4mtrs of each other!!

I would have suggested Costco at Watford but apparently Christmas is just round the corner so you can get a Santa Claus but no Air Con units? Must be because their American? can't get warm in August in America !

The first of Huxley's pictures looks just like the Samsung units we had on holiday. What excellent bits of kit

Not sure the relevance of the bottles of perfume though.

I like the second system though. What sort of money is fitting? I guess for a 4-bed, 3-reception house we'd need seven internal units? Or maybe just three for downstairs. I've heard of people getting hold of one of those big ceiling aircon units like they have in restaurants and putting it at the top of the stairs, with the fan part in the roof space. Thoughts?

Wink

Cut a big hole in your wall or take a window out. Buy a cheap fridge or freezer, leave the back of the fridge pointing outside, with the inside of the fridge inside. To make it more efficient, add a fan inside the fridge.

Joking aside, Fridge's are heat pumps and so are actually pretty efficient. IIRC, most of the cheeper aircon units rely on evaporative cooling (same principle as we cool down by sweating) which is less efficient, I think. You can achieve evaporative cooling by spraying fine mist of water everywhere, as a stop gap.

Exclamation

Well needless to say, all the shops are out of stock of fans today. Though one "Entrepreneur" (robbing bastad) is trying to sell 12" table ones for £50! He can **** off, Id rather sweat! than get mugged!

Why did not one of the major shops see this coming. Its Summer! It gets hot! People want Fans! Buy loads of stock! I guess the average house has at least 3-4!

Idiots!
