Like Blackpool except without the Tower and a decent funfair, trams or rollercoaster but it is full of pi$$ed up northerners.

OK so its not like Blackpool.

It's at the end of the longest stretch of dead-straight railway line in the country.

Hope this helps.

Cool

Good chips, good donuts, good arcades, all over in a couple of hours If you get bored though, you can always nip up the road to Mablethorpe which is exactly the same sort of stuff, just slightly different

Bracing sea front I think there is a mini roller coaster there but from what I remember it's a bit mental and feels like it's coming off the rails half the time

Still go every now and then.

Small tower though, pisssed up northerners yes, great rollercoaster at funcoast world though, perhaps not as high as Blackpool but lots of loops. Not as smelly/dirty as London though, don't need a shower after 5 mins of being there!!! tacky oh yesssss! but for people watching and little boy racers it is the place.

If you've ever been to Sarf-end you'll realise why the English seaside holiday is rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

Run down, tacky, full of neds, fat girls in leggings pushing perambulators etc etc etc.

Oh and dirty beaches and filth ridden water.

Other than that the place is great.

Just a touch too far for a summer Saturday though.

Which part of it do you consider particularly tacky? In a way any other seaside town isn't, that is?

Who/what are the neds?

Run down as in what sense? The newly contructed, Lottery-assisted Pier? Or the rejuvenated, completely overhauled High Street?

Which beach is filthy? The one they've just cleaned up with millions of cubic metres of new sand, running all the way to Thorpe Bay?

Which water is filthy? The Thames, now one of the cleanest rivers in the South of the country?

Don't talk crap mate. It's not perfect, but it's not the cesspit you assume it to be...

Smile

most of them..............except Brighton

For Brighton

take away a few of the ugly birds/neds
and add

Trendy yuppie types "powdering" their noses

Foreign Students wearing backpacks and waiting to get mugged

Hippies lying around on the beach selling dope

The traditional British seaside holiday, great stuff. The only thing I miss about it are the kiss me quick hats and acts of random ultra violence.

Yes it is. I refute totally everything you say!

The place is FULL of neds- just walk around and look at them

Beaches are dirty- When I was there litter was bad, as were the number of condoms.

Water isn't clean- like many other places in the UK

I'm glad you like it- I'll stick to the south of France personally.

How can you refute *everything*, when i've presented you with facts rather than blinkered opinions??

You've got some serious chips on your shoulders there fella...

That rollercoaster was made out of wood and when I saw it some years ago it looked rotten. I used to enjoy the Kursaal years ago but I suppose thats gone too now. The seaside in the West Country is still good though.

LOL you haven't presented any facts- just opinions, the same as I did.

I found Southend to be a nasty, dirty little place. You like it and that's great. However you should learn to respect other peoples opinions otherwise surely it's you with the chip on your shoulder?

quote "fat girls in leggings pushing perambulators"

PMSL - totally true (most seaside places really) - puts you off eating the crap that is served at seaside resorts anyway.

as regards Skegness - went there last year for a weekend and will probably never go again - CR4p

IMHO only

LOL, Christ i've seen some arguments twisted in my time, but that's a peach!

Fact - visitor numbers are at a 12 year high

Fact - the beaches are among the cleanest in Essex and Kent.

Fact - the Thames is one of the most improved in terms of water cleanliness in the whole of the UK over the last 20 years.

Of course there's litter and such like occasionally, evey seaside town suffers from it to some extent - Southend's no worse than many others.

Please, please, please don't honour us with your presence again anytime soon. We're proud of what we have, and don't need "i'll stick to the South of France" **** with their noses stuck up in the air dragging the place down. Thanks very much.[/i]

LOL Do you work for Southend Tourist information?

PMSL you sound like a politician

quote: "the beaches are among the cleanest in Essex and Kent." wow amongst the cleanest- that's great

quote: "visitor numbers are at a 12 year high"- so in terms of peak popularity the numbers have dropped significantly!

quote: "Please, please, please don't honour us with your presence again anytime soon. We're proud of what we have, and don't need "i'll stick to the South of France" **** with their noses stuck up in the air dragging the place down. Thanks very much. "

Who has a chip on their shoulder now eh telboy?

As I live here in the south of France I doubt I'll be making any trips to Sarf-end in the nr future, as a lad from a northern council estate I hardly qualify as having my nose stuck in the air. I just don't like squalid, dirty, tacky little seaside towns.

You like Sarf-end, I think its a cesspit. LOL. Sometimes when your mired down in the **** it's hard to see anything better.

No thanks, just because you say "go away" that's what we all have to do is it? You need to look at whose got a chip on their shoulder 'cos it's so big that even from down here in France I think I can see it nestling next to your head! PMSL at Sarf-ends finest.
You should try to take it less personally, this is just a fun thread. Grow up.
