We've got two thermometers for outside temperature either side of the apartment (so one in sun, one in shade). My wife tells me that currently one reads 36C and the other reads 42C
I HAVE to go and buy a small portable airconditioner, but I know that at 7-8000 BTUs it won't be powerful enough to do our main room (joined living/dining room) - the calculations say 10-12 000 is needed for a room of that size.
Anyone know what happens if I buy one? Will it just always feel warm but not so warm, or will it blow up after a week of overstraining itself? I can handle the former, but at four hundred quid I'd be pretty annoyed at the latter.
(I can't buy an external unit - we're renting, and there's nowhere to mount it )
thanks
Brendan

Just bought one from HomeBase for £180, it is quite noisy and is their own brand (from hong kong I think)
It works though, has two a/c speeds and two fan speeds, a thermostat and timer for up to 8 hours use.
I run a hose from it out the window, not ideal but they even give you some rubber stuff to pack in the window with a hole in it to drop the hot air coming back in. Go on a Friday and get 10% off too!
We also have one at work helping out in our server room, can't go wrong for £180 IMHO.
I think it is a 10 or 12000 BTU unit. This was white but the steel one was £220.

Well, Bob Hope just died, so that leaves me...
Lucky you 10 or 12k BTUs. I haven't seen one here higher than 8500. They're all hose-out-the-window, as you say.
Anyone know if it'll blow up or not?
