Can anyone who's been there recently give me an idea of the cost of food and drink (mainly alcoholic ) in amsterdam bars and restaurants compared to the uk?

Cheers.

beers are pricey, drink halves (makes it easier to do a full shift as well!!)
we went in february and lived on stale donuts and pizza slices, cost a bomb, we went again in june and and ate at restaurants and saved a fortune, good food as well, little italian place.
Also, breakfast at Barneys is nice, get the *american*, but 8 euros.
just along from the mushroom and pill shop.
which is IIRC stand in Dam square and walk away from the Grasshopper down the first road you get to.

Cool.
I mainly drink spirits and wines, so hopefully not too expensive.
Only going for 4 days but always best to ask beforehand than run out of money on day 2
Cheers.

Surely it's like any city, there are good places there are cheap places, but the cheap places aren't necessarly the good places, and are they the kind of place you'd want to spend your time?

It's like drinking in a Wetherspoon, alright for a couple, but you wouldn't want to spend a whole Friday night in there!

Can't be too hard to find a cheap place, I know plenty of stoner students who go there

We went for just the Saturday night(two weeks ago) and blew 500 euros ... but that encludes the hotel, which was a really good one...and we got completely smashed ... that figure encludes fuel to get down there so I guess we spent about 160 euros that night on food and drink which isn't too bad I think. The Hotel was 148 euro's.

Btw if you are driving, the hotel we stayed in is wicked... its just on the corner of the main strip .. 5 mins walk from one of the main squares .. but best of all it has a lift car park...

You drive your car onto the lift.. jump out ... lock up and then the lift takes the car down and it then moves it along a belt system... no one has to drive your car or move it, and its all under ground .. cost 40 euros a night extra on top of your hotel room but well worth it....

Oh and there is a wicked breafast bar place just out side the hotel too

Have fun...

If you want to know the name of the hotel .. let me know
