Got "Gangs of New York" at the week-end out on DVD. Had to watch 10 minutes of ads & previews before it got to the start of the film.
There was no way that I could jump them Had to wait through them all...
Wife bought me a DVD yesterday & EXACTLY THE SAME
They're News Corporation/20th Century DVDs & if this continues, then NFW am I going to buy their product again. If I chose to watch an advert - fine, but to be forced to

Got the T1/T2 special editions boxed set yesterday, and it's exactly the same. CANAL+ if that helps (they must have bought it off the original producers -- I'm pretty sure it was Universal Studios when it was released).

fast forward perhaps ?
watched solaris the other night and it had 15 odd minutes of trailers etc. i just x32 them. the only thing you cant fast forward or chapter jump is the UK+Ireland disclaimer but it only lasts for about 15 - 20 seconds.
cheers

I use my PC to watch DVD's, the software lets you skip chapters even on the Warnings and trailers.
If theres numerous items it lets you skip to the last one, but you cant fast forward over it. Its better than nowt as you only have to watch one.

Take a look at www.techtronics.com - they list all their players with comprehensive details about what their modifications enable you to do. All are multi-region, and some also disable so-called 'user prohibitions', meaning that you can skip tracks even if the disc says not to allow it. Sony and/or Pioneer players seem best for this, IIRC.
Most dvd's make you watch the disclaimer at the start.....10-15 secs but you should be able to then f/f or jump to the start of the film.
On rental films there are more ads,on bought dvd's most dont have any.
I agree though..its bl0ody annoying
One final point,if you copy them using dvd shrink you can choose to cut out all the ads/trailers at the start

PTMW - X32 is the fast forward speed that my old but faithful sammy 709 can go to. helps when the user prohibitions dont allow you to chapter skip. needless to say my backup copy doesnt have this problem

That's one of the reasons why I don't buy DVD's any more- that and the widespread availability of peer to peer sharing networks.
@nacro - will you email me some time. i am looking to buy a DVB card for the computer and would like to pick your brains. 1.2m is down atm and was thinking of one of these and a Vbox to control the dish. like to know if the emulation software is any good.
