Is it me, or does anyone else hate Formula 1?

As above. Do all you car enthusiasts love Formula 1?, is it the pinnacle of motorsport for you?.
I really find sitting and watching formula 1 tedious
I think it's the fact that the cars are so far detatched from 'normal' cars, anyone with me on this?, no?, lol.
Anyway, I'd much rather watch rally cars in action, to all you Formula 1 lovers with your Vauxhall Vectra SRi's and Ferrari T-shirts
So what is it people, Rally?, or Formula 1?

Sorry but way ahead of F1 for me and in order comes:
Tuscan (TVRs)
World SuperBikes
Moto GP Bikes
Rally
Britsh Touring Car (BTCC)
GT (Go TVR's against Porcsche /Ferrai)
Actually even truck racing is better than F1..... those damm things don't overtake , exicting is not a word I would use.
And this comes from a person who works at a company that use to sponsor Williams F1...
J
Edited cos I forgot 1

I like F1
It is the top of its sport - as in cars on a circuit racing so I assume I'm watching the best drivers in the best cars. I also drive circuits on trackdays, if I had the money I'd race too.
Problem with F1 is that because of the rules overtaking is almost non exsistant, which is not exciting and not racing. Bikes are much more interesting.
If you reduce downforce in such away that the turbulance from the car infront does not affect the handling of the car behind then F1 would be a must see.

You have a point, it's very tedious these days. Of course rallying is against the clock, so no wheel to wheel action or overtaking (no overtaking in F1 either, lol). Touring cars is probably the best high performance racing available regularly on normal TV, but with over 9 seconds covering the grid, it can be a foregone conclusion too. The Clio series which supports BTCC is superb racing, with identical spec cars and only 1/2 second grid it's thrilling.
The changes to F1 this year have helped spice it up a little, but what is needed is wheel to wheel racing and overtaking. The only way you'll get that back is to give them all more physical grip at low speeds, ie slick tyres. To counteract the excessive speed advantages these give I'd suggest some aerodynamic ruling changes.
Now here's an idea ! A sprinkler system installed at every track and turned on randomly to guarantee a part wet race every time. A wet race is always more exciting.

Watching the World Superbikes at Laguna Seca a few days back really brought home how dull F1 has become.
IMO they shoud ban certain carbon fibre components on the F1 cars, particularly in the suspension. They are so weak when subjected to forces and knocks from other cars, barriers, pollen etc. that none of the drivers are prepared to take risks. Replace these "state of the art" woven fibres with some proper, hardy metal than can take a few bumps and then let them race.

I know that formula 1 ain't what it used to be but I still love it and watch it religiously. You get dull races but you also get some amazing manouevres from time to time. I don't think you would find it dull if you were sat beside some of these drivers - up to 200 mph at a foot or so off someone's rear wing...

yeah, but we're all sat either 6 foot off someones TV set, or 1000 foot away in a packed stand after stumping up a gazillion quid to get in...
So its bollox.
I havent watched it in years (check out F3 on 4 if you want decent single seater racing on TV)

Like all forms of motorsport you get good races and bad races over the course of a season.
For all those who are saying that bike races are always much more entertaining than F1, then did you actually watch last Sunday's Moto GP race at Donnington ? Zzzzzzzzzzzzz but previous rounds have been great. It's the same in F1, we've had a few processions but we've also had lots of action including plenty of overtaking that the F1 bashers are forever telling us "never happens" - lol
Oh, and saying that you haven't watched F1 for 2 years and then stating that it's cr*p doesn't quite swing the argument for me

For me it's not about the performance of the cars or the skill of the drivers (which nobody can doubt is truely amazing), but it's the whole look of the sport.
<pokes stick into wasps nest>
One thing I've noticed over the years is, most people I know who 'love' formula 1 do not have performance cars. Is it just me, or does anyone else notice this?.
The people I know, who say to me, "did you see the race", at work for example are normally the type who have an average saloon car and not a lot of interest in a performance car for themselves.
There is a connection here somewhere, but I need the artistic effect brought on by alcohol to fully exploit it
No offence to anyone, btw, it's all in good fun

Bugger
Tell you what though - i think rally is a crap spectator sport too (to really get this thread going)
Car goes left, car goes right, car goes straight on.
Ok - again, amazing skill, amazing technology and stunning to be part of. But watching from a distance ? crap.
Really, its got to be close racing with plenty of overtaking, whether its clio cups to motogp.

I love rally and F1. F1's a lot better this season, although I don't think Schuey is really trying.

it's boring, adverts mid-race, pathetic attempts to make it more interesting (fuel stops, silly qualifying rules etc). they should make the tracks wider or something to help the overtaking....
bring back Nigel Mansell!!!!
Tour de France for me at the mo!

I thought rallying would be crap to watch until I went to see one, fookin love it now
For me, I think the difference between F1 and rallying is, you look at F1 and think, yeah, bit of training and a good few laps and I'd be giving it some stick...ok you wouldn't be setting lap records but you'd be pushing on! Rallying, fookin no chance, I can't even consider beginning to understand what they do with cars, on the Jim Clark I was stood open mouthed at one bend and that was just super 1600, the WRC cars!!!!!
Anyway, back on topic I don't hate F1, I watch it if it's on and I'm not doing owt, don't lose sleep if I miss it

Watching F1 on TV is boring, the only way to really enjoy it is to go and watch some races.

Myself and my friends enjoy it, plus it's a good excuse to go to the pub for a few beesr while watching it.
And as a bonus you don't get the football hooligans either

Funny, i think the exact opposite to Bob.T, F1 has more in common with being a fighter pilot than driving a car when rallying is just a quick road car, bet if you took an average joe from the street and put him in each for the day he'd be more competitive in the rally car. And i'm fed up with this overtaking argument, true F1 sucks when you get a faster car trapped behind a slower one and it cant overtake because of poxy aerodynamics but personally i find superbike races the dullest thing in the world, all they do is overtake each corner then get taken over again next, whats the point in that, it's like oval racing in America, it's all about coming off the last corner before the flag in front, the rest of the race is pointless.

I'm going on Sunday but I must say I resent the disdain with which the F1 circus treats the over-paying customer.**** facilities, etc. The races are now just so boring, it has been a downward slope since turbos were banned IMHO.
No decent UK driver doesn't help the interest stakes either. Button is a dilletante and Coulthard is merely a journeyman, he will never contend the title.

You are saying that following each other in a long line is more exciting?
