My office is in a mangaed office complex with many other companies. The car park is basically a free for all unless you pay extra for reserved parking spaces. We decided to pay the extra after some episodes of vandalism in the far reaches of the car park.
Ever since we've had the spaces which are quite near the building other people park in them. The management of the building do their best, but it's a losing battle. This morning I turn in to find as usual someone in my space, but he was in the car and was leaving.
As he reversed out I looked across and pointed at the reserved sign and then parked my car. On getting out of the vehicle I realised he was stopped behind me and informed me he would park where he wanted and if I wanted an argument I'd be the one suffering etc. etc.
Not wanting to get into a slanging match I informed him we pay extra for them and should have the right to use them. He then informed me he will be parking in them everyday from now on just to annoy me and if I could make him do otherwise so be it.
So what should I do?
1) Nothing and put up with it in the usual British way.
2) Park across the back of him - bearing in mind he drives a Volvo (probably a company car/lease).
3) Relinquish the spaces and pocket the extra money (hoping our cars don't end up targets of vandalism)
4) Hire a rental car and ram his Volvo as far into the space as I can (no I am serious).
So far I think 4 is a great idea, but no doubt when I calm down and remember the CCTV cameras I'll change my mind.
Any suggestions?
Regards,
tiggers.

if he wants the damn space that much, just let all his tyres down and tell him to keep it!
I have the same problem outside my house and it gets my goat!

I think rather than getting into a fight with this guy, you need to have a strong word with the people who run the building / car park.
If you pay for a space and he's using it, it's up to them to enforce it I would have thought.
If he too uses the building, they should charge him for using your space and give you your money back.

Hello
The people who own the building should start issueing stickers to people who have paid for reserved parking and put lots of "Clamp Zone" type signs around.
If you are paying extra, you should demand a refund for each day that a non-reserved person parks in your space. That should hopefully prompt some action.
Steve.

when he parks there, stand a long nail up against the back of each of his tyres, as he reverses out *pop* four new tyres for that man... repeat as many times as it takes the bloke to get the message.

Surely if you pay for the space then somebody is taking your money,
i.e the management company.
So it is there problem not yours.
Maybe they should start clamping the offenders?
Meanwhile, parking behind him would be best for you, for others it would be to chin him hard so he got the message straight away.

First port of call is building management.
If you get no joy, and it's a problem, for the cost of the materials I can construct you a small incendiary device that will make it look as if his engine is going up inflames, but does minimal damage. It will scare the **** out of him

I have just had a good discussion about it with the office management and they have promised to find him and speak to him and to then let me know the outcome.
The wider problem is the people parking in them at all and I just don't see why people are so damned ignorant. Hopefully clamping will be introduced and then the problem will go away.
I have asked for a refund for each day we can't use a space - I will see what happens.
I do like the idea of the nails btw. Just a pity about the CCTV.
fin, Thanks, 4 still sounds good to me too and I really hadn't thought about the private property aspect. Now where can I hire a Megane as they do the best in the crash tests ;-)

Well done for avoiding the confrontation.
Do your cars have stickers to show the spaces are reserved for you?
If so, get the management company to do a couple of weeks clamping unofficial cars. Its private property so you can charge what you want for clamp removal which could be used toward paying for the space.
With regard to number 4, put your car in for a service. Get a courtesy car. Park it badly ...

I agree with Medders,
refuse to pay for the reserved parking until its managed properly.
some people are scum
what you need is an out-of-towner to have a flare up with this ****, thus keeping you out the frame.
as any grief from you. will probably result in a scratch down your car. - ( thats how these idiotic cowards perform)
is he a big bloke??
put an official looking notice on his car from Acme clamping company warning him that next time he parks there, if he gets clamped, he has no recurse.
or what about hiring a mini skip and when it arrives, ask them to put it directly behind the car, pretending that its your car etc...
failing that, just grab him by the neck one day as he gets out of his car and repeated pound his head against the "reserved" sign.
i hate people like this, they are the worst, flounting their "i can do what i like attitude".
good luck

Next time he does it - pop into the office, Turn on your PC, make a document with as big a font as you can saying Tw*t! (or a more suitably worded notice, print two copies off, pop back to the car park and super glue one right in front of the drivers seat and one right in the middle of the rear window.
Of course the second one might be overkill - volvo drivers tend not use use their mirrors

Wait for him to leave his car, get your work mates out with you and bump it to another area of the car park (s0d the cctv cameras, nothing illegal about this), preferably somewhere will it will get towed away from, then park your car in the space and make sure you are there to see his face when he goes to get in his car.
Used to do this at school, with a person on each wheel arch and a bit of timing its amazing how quickly you can move a car quite a distance.

Blair's sticker idea is the one to go for.
I know someone who looked into this, and there's no legal comeback apparently because your not damaging the car in anyway - just make sure the stickers are a ba$tard to get off!
a better tip than letting tyres down - remove the valves so he can't reinflate them.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies - you're really cheering me up with all this.
Just for information he is a big bloke, not that that really bothers me. Big car, big bloke, big attitude, little ... well you know what I mean.
Stickers on his windows might actually be agood way to go - no permanent damage and he can't say he wasn't warned. Now where can I get those really sticky ones?

tiggers.

i like the answer above, damaging his car only means yours will get the same treatment, this way he gets the message that he's being a complete ******

Personally it sounds like he's used to bullying people, I'd take him down a peg or two. If you feel confident in bettering him that is. If not get some back up and confront him about his attitude problem. He'll back down.
