Right, i've got a question, to settle a dispute.

Is Ultimate Force supposed to represent an SAS regiment?

Anyone know? Cheers.

Telboy - yes I think so.
I havn't watched it recently but I think the badge on their berets gives it away.

Bugga!

How true is the representation? I saw a copper on last night's show, and i didn't think the SAS would ever get involved with the plod. That's what made me say it couldn't have been the SAS...

Yeah, and in coronation street, do they still have garages in backstreets. And that Kevin, he didn't hold his spanner correctly in the last episode but one........

Eh medders? Don't follow. I know you're in the Police, but how would you know whether they do/don't have direct contact with the SAS, on a regimental level as displayed last night..?

as far as I can remember, the SAS got involved with plod at the Iranian Embassy siege. Didn't the police commander hand over to the SAS once the terrorists started killing the hostages....?

I wouldn't have thought it would be anything unusual. I doubt the overall technical accuracy of the series, but its good TV anyway...

Sorry Telboy, i was just joking, TV show / not real etc. (not really replying to your question)

Bosses could potentially work with the SAS I guess, and maybe armed police?

I've never heard of it though, and the likes of me will probably never meet any (although I have met prince charles )

It is based on 22 Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment.

Its supposed to be about the missions that a troop in the SAS (ie Red troop) would carry out. Only thing is, half of the missions they have so far carried out would be done by another agency ie The boat recon/assualt would definetly of have been SBS, surveilence is MI5 etc etc.

Also, AFAIK the squadrons are split into different warfare ability troops ie Boat troop, mountain troop, mobility troop etc etc. each troop would carry out missions specific to their current status. With regards to counter-terrorist missions each squadron will cover this for 6 months at a time.

IMHO Ultimate Force itself is good and quite realistic in certain ways, i watch it anyway. Only thing that bugs me is how they go from one thing to the next, ie Selection DS to carrying out an embassy assualt or Ireland or Bosnia etc etc - cos IIRC that just doesnt happen.

Cheers Chris. Looks like i lost the bet, though i'm counting it as a moral victory based on the fact that it's an unrealistic portrayal of the SAS.

Bu then i guess an hour of watching a guy lying in wait for someone wouldn't make the most riveting programme in the world!

PMSL every week we have a thread about Ross Camp and Ultimate Force
It is based on the Regiment and IIRC uses some quite realistic and accurate operational procedure ( last night, good covering of all points inside the house ) to add excitement to a rehash of Soldier, Soldier.
As was said someone cam'd up in an OP for 12 hours wouldn't make good tele. Especially when they start p1ssing in bottles and sh1tting in bags.
They have added soap opera so it makes a story.
Can we have a show of hands as to who bought and w@nked ovr Warlord comic as a kid . I think the count would be very high on this BBS by the posts in CWE.
