I've been using the Clarion NSV613. 820 quid for a single din, 6 inch fold out screen is a real bargain IMHO

If its only temporary usage and you've already got a laptop, you could do a lot worse than a GPS "mouse" - just looks like one but sits on top of your dash - they retail for about 90 quid and are certainly cheaper on eBay. You'll also need software, MS Autoroute for about 35 quid?

Bit clunky day to day but generally better like for like than a dedicated nav system, no dash-mount unit comes anywhere near the physical size or screen res of any modern laptop!

And where exactly do you put and secure a laptop? Especially when there's a passenger??

Auto Express mag, this week has a feature on Sat Nav systems. Worth reading. They review a variety of types of these systems, and recommend the best in each category.

They rate the VDO Dayton 5500XL and Garmin Streetpilot III as the best ones. The article may be on their web site by now.
