Mauritius was too cold for short wetsuits, deep 25-30m for a casual sport dive as well. Plenty of fish but nothing too large. Seychelles, really good wreck's/man made reefs and loads of fish(some large baraccuda ),turtles and even whale sharks(never seen them myself). Sea temperature was nothing short of fantastic and depths of 15-25m only 300M from the shore. Both good but Seychelles better.

Great Barrier Reef (based in Port Douglas, much better than Cairns) - excellent range of dives but some of the coral looked a bit jaded (miserable weather didn't help!) and we were there just after the coral spawning which had clouded things up a bit
Spain (Isles de Medes - the old pirates' lair, off Lorrette De Mar so you can lager up at night!) - very average, cold, bugger all visibility and few fish but some good cave dives
Florida - average, sea conditions often choppy with strong currents, some nice wreck dives
Maldives - excellent, cannot praise it enough. wonderful drift dives all within easy distance of the islands. get on a 4 star island (3 star really equals 2 star)
Thailand - Phuket (Phi Phi Island, Simian Islands etc) - very good diving but long trips to get there. 3.5 hours by fast catamaran to the Simian - better to do a liveaboard for a few days. wonderful visibility and sea life, beautful surroundings
Hoping to do off Borneo later this year (the manta cleaning stations off the North coast)

I used to be a commercial diver in the oil industry so i have dived all over the world but not many places that you would consider fun as it was mainly sat diving so very deep, cold and dark.

i'm just doing my open water at the minute, why does everything have to be so heavy??? i'm sure if sony made scuba equipment it would be a lot lighter and smaller than the stuff i've had to wear.
at least i know what it feels like if i ever get concrete shoes.

most fun i had was diving the wrecks in Scappa Flow in the orkney islands good vis 30-40m dives every time and the size of some of those wrecks. one batlle ship took 18 m to reach then another 20m to get to the bottom of it and if your brave enough to dive to 40m and enter the wrecks there is goodies to be found
edited to say
beadnell is not a bad little dive the best fun there is to catch the tide and youve got an hour on the wreck (forgot its name) but its a biggun, dived there once and some one came to the surface with what looked like a gold bar spent 40mins at 30m throwing rocks away from an enrance for the lads to do a search the following day found nothing as the entrance was to dangerous to go beyond

Just passed Open Water at Stoney, not too cold and a massive 3m vis on second day.
Going out to Gran Canaria at end of month on holiday so any advice as to dives there would be appreciated.

I'm a Royal Engineers army diver as well as a BSAC sports diver.
Weymouth bay and portland harbour is ok for weekend diving, just spent a week there. Good for new divers, plenty of crabs, lobbies escallopes, flatties etc - vis was ok on neaps as well and did some good drift dives just past breakwater (18m).
Weymouth was quite glamourous as usually i'm in dark, mirky and cold rivers pulling out bodies, working on bridge piers, underwater demolitions etc and more recently ice diving in -20 deg in KOSOVO........but hey i get paid £6k extra a year for doing it
I would strongly second going to scapa-flow. i did it 10 years ago - awsome wrecks to be seen.

Warick... well all of you divers actually
If you have access to a news reader check out "uk.rec.scuba"
An internet based scuba club type thing.
A place that is very freindly and a good step forward in terms of where to go after training!
See their website too, for all the dives we have done to date, trip reports and pictures a plenty.
UK Recreational SCUBA or UKRS as we like to call it
Andy.

Did my Open Water in Tenerife last October with Wreck n Reef. Great fun. Just decided to do my advanced course in the last few weeks here in Jersey.
Did Wreck/Deep dive on Wednesday night to wreck north of Jersey La Mauve at 26m. Then did fantastic drift dive and surprised at speed of current. Last night I did the navigation course. Monday morning will be the underwater photography course followed by the night dive.
Definately recommend Jersey for diving. Instructor is nice young blonde called Lisa which is a bonus
Soon be moving to Devon so interested in any diving areas around north Devon or Cornwall. Checked out Lundy Island last week and that looks interesting but I probably need more experience for that.
