Does anyone know if a gatso speed camera catches you coming both ways ? I was coming back from the jim clark memorial rally and was flashed twice by a camera which was facing me ie on the opposite side of the road. I was travelling around a ton (no lectures please) so hope they do not charge me . Anyone know the score???

All speed enforcement devides requite Home Office type approval, and the standard GATSO does not have this for forward facing speed enforcement.

When you say standard Gatso does that mean that some can ? Spoke with a traffic officer on the phone and he was adament that the camera would not have flashed me but a car on the other side of the road, even though I assured him that there were no vehicles on that carriage way. Thanks for your help Ian.

For normal Gatso's they do flash but you don't get done.

Whenever I see one on the other side I deliberatley try and get it to flash, Gatso baiting I guess, round here they flash occasionally but more often than not they're dummys and don't flash.

Truvello cameras face towards you but then it would have been on your side of the road and facing you. So no worries. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Yes there are sme cameras which are forward facing, but these cameras should not flash when you go towards them.

Sounds to me like the camera on the other side of the road was/is faulty.

had the same experience on my bike, obviously less of a problem front wise on a bike but I think you're OK

Gatso's do flash when you go towards them, but you dont get "done"
Truvelo is a forward facing camera, but they don't flash.

Interesting Paul as this happened to me months ago but I knew it would have been for the other side.

You say they can flash though, even when approaching them?

Are you doing a Mycroft?

If not, do you know why they should do this?

I caused a Gatso to flash twice as I approached it. That was last September and I am still waiting for the NIP

When I'm on the bike I always set off the ones facing me, nice expensive waste of film

Truvelo (gatso with round holes instead of square ones) do flash its just in the infrared range, i guess its designed not to blind oncoming traffic. At night you can just about see some red flash as they go off.

Happens to me alot, driving up the A1, doing about 77-80mph, and the camera on the opposite side will go off.

Nothing to worry about.
