Going to Avignon at the end of next month. Just wondered which would be the recommended road atlas?
Should I get down to my local WH Smiths, or Halfords? Or can I order a better one online?
Thanks in advance.

I bought a big Michelin jobby from a roadside service area when I was over there. They are really good and cost about a tenner.. Probably recommend roughing out the route on- line or something and getting one of these first services you come to..

Agree with Alpine 99.
French prices tend to be cheaper than ours (surprise, surprise), even at services.
I went without mine over easter, and wifey bought me the AA one of France on the ferry without asking!
It's actually done by IGN, a French company, so not half bad, but cost £9.99. It's a maller scale than the Michelin, and larger format, so thinner.
If you go for the michelin, don't be tempted to buy the spiral bound version, it just acts as perforations to tear the pages out!
I'd also recommend a Michelin France large scale map, I believe it's number 989, but VERY useful for roughing the route.
If you intend buying the mapbook over there, but want a route/itinerary to start you off, let me know offline, and I can do you a starter. I just need to know the general route/direction you want to take.
www.mappy.com is also very good.

Don't forget that the French Grand Prix (Magny-Cours and the area around Nevers in general) is coming up soon as so is the Tour de France so you might want to take those into consideration when planning your route. Enjoy Avignon ! I might be down that way myself between mid-July and mid-August...but plans are for the Bourgogne region and the twisties

Forgot to mention - take plenty of liquid refreshments with you for the journey (water especially). It's very hot here at the moment with temperatures between 35-40 not uncommon...and that's in the shade. Not joking.

Tis a nice run that Burr, we did it a few years ago on a trip to Magny Cours
TBH the traffic was ace, only the last mile of the journey had a few cars on it, and that was getting into the circuit itself, it was a dream
You need SatNav if I got my Ipaq all setup, I might let you borrow it with the good old French Maps
