I was told about this and laughed a few years ago, BUT, having a clearout I thought I would try it out!?

The process is like this, place your music CD into the freezer for 24hours, when you play it again its so crisp, the sound is crystal clear, superb!!

Now, all I can think of is that the crystalline structure of the CD changes at freezing temperature and improve the sound quality??

Weird, try it with a cheap old CD like I did - you will be amazed!!

Pete

is this a permanent change, or will I have to get another 20 Barry White cd's so as I can "cycle" them.

Can't risk the missus going off the boil at the crucial moment, due to poor sound quality of said love walrus.

Question

Not sure how permanent the crystal alignment would be??

Maybe you should put the missus in the freezer too??!!

I think it was meant to do something if you put the mags off your BMX in the freezer too Trying to remember back to when I was about 10 now in 1986! I'm sure that was going round the playground, pass it on.

If you "crisped" ie warped your BMX mag wheels, then putting them in the freezer was supposed to straighten them out again.

Never tried it though.

Even the fairly well-respected hifi journalist Jonathan Kettle reckoned he heard a difference between a frozen and unfrozen CD.

However, he did add that it's hard to be objective when listening, especially after you've been popping CDs into the freezer

Green / purple marker pen around the edge of the disk, anyone?

Would you really take hi-fi advice from someone with 70(ish) year-old ears?

So what's with the green/purple pen theory?

It reduces the amount of internal laser refractions within the cd. Green just does this best, apparently. Ideally, cds should have a solid edge to eliminate the effect totally, but like all things, it's a question of cost.

Now I know why my Playstation games don't work in my Computer - they are BLACK so don't reflect the proper lazer light??!!

I am now painting them all with Dulux Green
