Question

I've never seen one a mobile safety van at night or a policeman with a radar/laser gun after dark. I'd guess that they can't be sure in a court of law, that they had targeted the right car (no clear vision). I know they get up early and have been know to start at first light but maybe they're scared of the dark?

Has anyone else seen one at night?

Just a thought....

F

I can't see much when it's dark, so I don't know!
I am told that they can operare at night, but would the number of cars on the road make the operation less profitable?

Yes a good few years ago. I was in a taxi and it came over the radio to watch out for the copper. We had to drive by where he was and the driver said he was after taxi drivers as that route was always full of taxis doing daft speeds to cram more journeys in.

Thumbs down

Have had this twice, once when driving minicabs, got done for 38 in a 30 limit, Christmas day, 11.55 pm:, then, months later, in the minicab with a handheld radar at about 2am in a little village near us, but got off as someone had knocked down the 30 sign the day b4, so apparently the copper told me they couldn't do me

a mate got caught twice one night on a piece of dual carriageway near a shooping centre. It is 70 most of the way and drops to 40 near the centre (for obvious reasons) He was passing at 4.00AM at 70 and got pulled. 3 points and £60.00 later he went on his way. An hour later he was returning on the same piece of road. Dropped to 50 just in case and they caught him again. I must admit - I laughed my nuts off when he told me

So far all instances have been police with radar? I wonder if they are allowed to use laser at night due to accuracy needed?

Still no safety vans though!

Just building a picture.

Lasers - yes

80 in a 60 (A75) on a completely empty road one evening just after Christmas heading for a ferry...

Where they were I don't know as both they & their car was reflecto-city & I had my main beams on & never saw didly

I was also posting myself @ 80 max 'cos that was my intepretation of what was safe on that road etc, so I knew that they must've actually done me cos it was 80.0 on the readout!

any essex bods would have seen one, most weeknights, parked up just beyond the dick turpin pub (A127) southend bound....

good place to race people, and then slow down before the brow of the hill, so they can get done....(only kidding)

one day they will move the camera 1/2 forward and i will get severely flashed at..... heheehh

until that day, let the tournament begin.

they should do a points scheme
so, for instance

if you are speeding, you get 3 points, full stop
if you are wearing a baseball cap, 1 extra point
if the baseball cap is back to front, another point
and finally one point for every spot on their face.

get where i'm coming from here?????
