I know there's a minmum but is there a maximum? It hit 100* F/38*C in my work van today within 15 mins of taking temp.Trying to present a case to employers to "encourage" them to equip vans with some form of cooling(no aircon, fan just blows hot air and windows have to be kept shut when not in vehicle which is most of the day)

No maximum at all from what I remember of my Health & Saftey training.

Unhappy

There used to be a maximum but after a couple of hot summers in the eighties, Maggie got rid of it. Lovely woman that!

IIRC there isn't a minimum working temperature - it is only a guideline. Seem to remember checking up on this when work was a tad nippy back in the winter

That's hardly trying. "When I were a lad" (5 years ago, actually), I allegedly did a few hours here and there at 50-55ºC, with requirement to wear double layers of overalls. Cheaper than a Sauna!

Seriously, under Health and Safety at Work Act: If your employer is made aware (really needs to be in writing) that you consider that the temperature to be dangerous as it is well above the WHO recommendation, they have a legal obligation to show that they have taken reasonable steps to achieve a safe working environment - at the very least they'd need to provide a written risk assessment to show what they consider reasonable and why. Most bosses will work with you if you raise it in a colaborative type fashion and work with them to achieve a solution (be it allow time to drive slower with windows open, more rest stops etc). If the boss isn't amenable, it's down to you as to whether you want to make more of an issue of it.

Put it into the grievance procedure today-managers agrees but no budget for fans.If I'm not happy with result(ie a 12v fan provided, not just a security grill over window)then will initiate a risk assesment.
