Help required! Anyone got a Glasses Guide handy?
#1
My insurance company are trying to write off my car! B*****ds!
OK, it's only an Astra diesel estate, but it's the principal that's got me mad! Essentially, it was hit from behind and the ONLY damage is to the back door - ie replace the door and it's fixed.
But they're trying to tell me that costs more than the car is worth in Glasses Guide! Surely not!?
Here's the details: Astra TD LS, 1995, N-plate, CD, sunroof etc. Full service history, 2 owners from new, full MOT, 128k miles, otherwise great condition.
Can anyone please tell me how much this is meant to be worth so I can kick up a bit of a stink?
Alternatively, can anyone tell me how best to go about getting the best deal on buying back my own car from them once it's written off? (ie what do I say to get maximum payout so I'm not too out of pocket when I repair it myself?)
Cheers!

Cheers guys. Just checked Parkers and the figures are WAY different to Glass's guide!
A1 - £2,565
Good - £1,900
Fair - £825
Is Glass's guide there just to allow car dealers and insurance companies to profiteer at the expense of consumers? Seems like it!
Has anyone else here ever had a car written off that they wanted to keep?

remember a1 in parkers is dealer
so your looking at anywhere between 1000 and 1900, either way break point is normally 40% of the cars value so if repairs are more than 400 or 760 respectively then it's not economical to repair.
To spray a door and blend it in must cost 300 so all the admin and bits you don't realise, like hire car etc.
What my parents did once was to argue the point about where it was to be repaired. The insurance company offered 1000 to write it off or 800 if we wanted it repaired. As it was an old car, took the 800 and got friends to fix the car for a lot less
