i posted in DIY but i think that forum gets about 3 hits a week so i have gone in search of a wider audience!

i need a landscape blokey to design and do my garden in Berkshire, anyone use/know someone who they like?

or anyone anywhere had work done as i would be interested in what you get for a certain budget......right now if someone quoted £1000 or £20000 i wouldnt know if that was right or not!

if you wait until next year you can be my first customer as I shall be hanging up my sales director suit and pulling on the green wellies and cords. Not much help at the moment though I'm afraid.
It all depends what you are after - if you are looking for a relatively straightforward design (for example a "cottagey" theme with pond, patio, gazebo, etc) you could do a basic design yourself and then get a local contractor to do the work, all of which is simple and not too expensive.
Alternatively, one of the big landscaping firms can design and build whatever you like. Chenies used to be good and are a big operation. Dont know their number but they are somewhere around Chalfont St Peter from memory. The possible problem here is that their designers tend to follow a similar pattern.
If on the other hand you want something unique, modern and really "designerish" you could contact someone like the English Gardening school at Chelsea who could probably recommend one of their recent graduates.

steve, quit now and start on my garden next week!

i have done a simple design so i just need a gardener/landsacper who can look at my drawing, ammend it so it is a bit better! and then crack on.

so i dont need full on designer chap but dont want a wheelbarrow pusher who can lay turf but has no idea what a pen and paper is !

after the day I've had you dont know how tempting it is to pack it all in here and now. Not going to though.

If the work is straightforward you could probably do it yourself. I'm not that far from Henley and dont mind taking a look at your proposed design at some point if you like.

Tiggs

I did the landscape thing last year. After much deliberation I decided against using a designer before finding a contractor. Instead I had a couple of lads recommended to me. They met at university where they were doing their landscape design degree. After uni. they set up their own company doing design & build. Eventually they want to get away from the build element and sub-contract it, however, they did a bloody brilliant job, and it was great to see a couple of graduates sweating

I got one of my sheds moved, new patio, new wall, new BBQ area, new utility area, new path, new beds, new pod, loads of plant things and a lovely new lawn.

They are Leeds based but do travel all over the place. I have no quarms recommending these boys to you, so if you want their details let me know.

Cheers

TONY

just trying to give the impression I know what I'm talking about

In all seriousness though, it does make quite a difference, as if you want a patio for example, you may want it where it will catch the evening sun, or the midday sun. Also has a huge impact on how you plant it up as you may want to put a flower bed somewhere that never gets any sun. Not in itself a problem but this will then determine the type of planting you do. etc etc.

Send over what you've got though and I'll take a look.
