Problem with a will.
#1
Mods: please leave this, as it's a bit urgent and I need as many replies as I can get, thanks:
Mother in law died suddenly leaving a will naming a lady she used to work for as executor.
She had some insurance to cover funeral expenses etc, but not much else.
Unfortunately, the lady named as executor has moved away, and may even also be deceased. We do not know where she is, or how to contact her. I've been to her old addy in town, but no joy.
The insurance co, (Prudential) are refusing to pay out to anyone but her, or her executors. Meanwhile, we have funeral director, gas, electricity, council tax, phone etc, on our backs, and no money to pay 'em.
Any advice on how to contact/find executors etc would be very gratefully recieved. Thanks,
Alcazar

alcazar - the DSS tracing service is available for a small fee (I think it's about a fiver)? I work in pensions and when a deferred member reaches their retirement age (and not told us of an updated address) we have to try to contact them through this tracing service. I'm not sure "job public" can use it, but I would suggest calling your local DSS office to ask.
Other than that, the usual like 192.com, and electoral roles.
Good luck.

It may be possible to have someone else act as executor. One surefire way if to have the courts appint a 'receiver' but would usually apply of someone dies intestate. The court usually appoint an independent solicitor.
Speak to the Pru and find out if they will deal with an independent solicitor as executor without the court order.
