Question

Well as some of you may know I am marrying the Enemy next Feb.

I have a question regarding passports for the honeymoon.

3 weeks before the wedding, the Enemy is going on hen weekend to Dublin, so will need her passport. I am going elsewhere in England so wont need mine. The day after our wedding we are going to Oz for 3 weeks, so what do we do about passports ?

Does she have to have one with her married name in, or can she travel on the old one ? If she has to have the married name we will only have the marriage certificate the day before...aarrgghhh.

Anyone know what you have to do ?

Travel on the old one. Only you and the marriage registry know you're married, the airlines don't have a direct link with the marriage registry. And it's not compulsory to change a name when you're married anyway, it's just choice and tradition.

you can travel with the existing passports + marriage certificate to most places as I recall.

i aint gonna bother getting the missus to change hers

just make sure you book the honeymoon in the name on the passport i.e. maiden name.

Well, as long as you're not going to jump the gun and apply for the visa in her married name and thus commit fraud , then presumably the application will be in her maiden name, along with the passport?

you can get the passport changed before you get married as long as you have written proof from the official that this is happening. Thisway she will be able to travel on her new passport straight away. Any plane tickets will have to match so either all in married name or maiden name.
I did this and had no problem at all. The only hitch I had was that I had to leave it horribly late as I was travelling a lot for work and obviously needed it in my maiden name before!

Passport Agency said that you dont need your passport to travel over the border to Rep of Ireland, but some airlines/ferry companies, etc will ask for it. They shoudlnt but they do.

If she has a passport in the new name that is not valid for another 3 weeks then it is still a valid form of ID.

Got to speak to Australia House about the visa tho...
