Cool

What's the verdict - crap or reaaaaaally good?

I love it.

Sumkinda Monster. Very heavy indeed.
Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock!

It's hard as nails throughout, even though it makes for a massively tiresome listening session.

And I haven't decided if Ulrich's drums sounds naff or ultra

It's very different, and the general opinion so far is that some hate it, and others love it.

just been delivered to me via a mate (i'm at work)

lars gone back to old skool... the snare does seem a bit 'boing' ringing... like he's not got the snare rattler on at all? (might be cause i'm playing it through a PC speaker )

vocals are phat.. cool beat/rythm changes... nice riffs .. plenty o lars double kickin'

all in all fookin magic!

your views?

Great single , great to hear them again
Two of my mates were up at Donnington Monstors of Rock last weekend,a security guard told them to hang around a small marquee cos there were special guests appearing.
It turned out to be Metallica.
Howz that.

I stopped listening after being a fan from their first album.

"so f**king what" (on the Garage Days double CD they released which I bought for the $5.98 ep stuff) was exactly what I thought of everything after the black album.

However, if they HAVE gone back to the classic type stuff such as Creeping Death and One, then I'll be up for a listen

I managed to get hold of a 'pre-release' copy of this and I haven't stopped listening to it yet! Absolutely awesome and in my opinion the standout tracks are Shoot Me Again and Dirty Window.

Cool

The album is awesome (and I'm a die-hard from the Ride The Lightning/Master of Puppets era). Thank god Lars has finally remembered what the second bass drum pedal is for!

As for the snare sound, it's most likely down to not having a sound dampening ring on it - it's got a real 'pop' sound to it which I actually quite like!

All in all a stunning effort. Just make sure you get the Ltd Edition version that comes with the DVD!

It's amazing how much this album has stirred up things...

Usually older fans like it, the fans from the black album era doesn't. Bet it's just too hard for them.

Wusses.

Saw the MTV Metallica weekend tribute a while ago and found it utterly cringe-inducing. I could barely watch, and I'm surprised the band themselves made their way through it all...

Yes it is being repeated now on MTV. Christ Lars is right up his ars(e) explaining the angst that they have 'suffered' over the last 2 years and what went into St Anger.
Enjoy their stuff but when they try and articulate things it is sooooo pretentious.
Anyway are they doing any 'small gigs' in the Uk this year...that is except for the festivals

The DVD that comes with St Anger is W I C K E D - saw it last night with some friends.

It's a live studio recording from a rehearsal session (every choon is in there).

Ulrich's trying to kill the drums, Hetfield is cooler than ever in an old worn triumph motorcycles cap, and Trujillo is looking like a madman stomping around.

Mr Hammet looks as boring as ever - he's really crap - at least he isn't drenching every note with the crybaby anymore.

BUT - it's even better than the cd.

/J - hated Load and Reload
