Does anyone know if there is a 'governing body' for dog rescue centres?
I got a rescue dog a few months ago (as a few who have read my previous threads will know!) and he's got dominance problems with my son and even though he will be a brilliant dog with adults, he's not good with children.
Anyway, the kennels I got him from have refused to take him back and have told me they don't care what happens to him so I may as well go and have him destroyed (amongst other things). I want to report this w*nker for the attitude towards his rescue animals (I have spoken to an ex employee of his who has confirmed that would be his attitude and who also told me about acts of cruelty to dogs and cats whilst she was working there). Any ideas?

I would imagine that you could go to the RSPCA and make a complaint.
Surely they must have to deal with cruelty from carers and care centres as well as cruelty from owners????
People like that make me sick. Get the b*stard

At the bottom of this pdf is a list of useful addresses for animal welfare organisations in the UK.
This next link is especially focused on Dog welfare:

I have a rescue dog too. Problem is alot of these 'halfway houses' use the plight of these dogs as a way of living for themsleves. Only a few are genuine.
e.g Our local charity shop were caught flogging clothes at a car boot sale making money for themselves not the animals.
As i've said before animal cruelty etc comes top of my disgust list. Just make sure you get him/her a good home. Its the least you can do as they've prob had a rotten life anyway.
Oh and the guy running the kennels should be named and shamed. Rescue animals don't deserve cruelty a 2nd time round.

I have spoken to the RSPCA and waiting for them to call me back. They are really sympathetic and I finally feel that I am able to take Trev to a place where he will find a suitable home.
They have a long waiting list and I know by the time a place comes up, I won't want him to go, but my childs safety is the most important.
Thanks for your help.

I love dogs but hate rescue places...if I go there I want to take all of them. I always thought the NCDL (I think that is right - yellow sign anyway) is a good place as they never destroy healthy dogs.
I am not so sure about the RSPCA. I've only had reason to call them twice. First time there was an injured bird in our garden. Ok, just a bird (maybe), but it was injured and someones cat would have killed it. Ring RSPCA and they were not interested at all. I caught it and drove to a vets and I would have paid the money myself to do whatever but it died on the way.
The second time was completely out of line. We were driving home at about 4am and something big ran across the road in front of us and straight into the bushes at the side of the road. I pulled up and went for a look as it was a 60mph country lane and is very busy during the day. A chocolate lab came running out petrified and shaking. It was soaking wet and really scared. I put it on back seat and called the RSPCA. They were not interested at all. I said there were no houses close and it was lost so I couldnt leave it. I was told there was no one on call and I should leave it. She actually said "it might get run over, it might not". I was seriously P***ed off so I ended up taking it to two police stations to get rid of it and they couldn't give a damn either.
I'd definitely report the resuce centre though.
Good luck, Chinnybloke.

I'm so gutted about my dog He's now on the waiting list at Derby RSPCA. I know they will make sure he goes to a good home without small children. They have said that it sounds like he's a very confused 'teenager' and he can't cope well with a small male being in the house.
It's such a shame as he is a real comedy gem! Wish we could sort him out

OMG. I can't do that to the poor baby. I really don't know what to do for the best. Why my other half talked me into getting a dog in the first place is beyond me! Bloody men and bloody mutt!!!
I can't send Trev into a death sentence. Maybe we can try family again.

dont panic red_dog! Ask the RSPCA outright what happens if they cant rehome the dog. I believe they have different guidelines depending on the age of the dog - ie a puppy or young dog is easier to rehome than an adult, etc.
It is a fact that in some circumstances they will have to put the dog down. The RSPCA is not the most sympathetic organisation simply because they are so big and have so many animals to deal with.
There is at least one organisation that has a policy of never putting animals down, under any circumstances. Unfortunately I cannot remember who they are. Sorry! Talk to the RSPCA, talk to your vet and take your time. I know you are worried about the situation with your son and his welfare comes first but you are obviously going to be very upset if you make the wrong decision now.

Now I know I'm opening myself up to ridicule here and I'm not a dog owner myself, but try:

I have heard good things about this from a friend of mine who's opinion I trust - it might help you keep the dog
Regards,
tiggers.
P.S. Srrry I don't know how to make it clicky

Is there an NCDL kennel that you could take Trev to in your area. If so, I would personally go and look at both the RSPCA and NCDL to see where he would be best suited to be re-homed from. Also to see which one has the best facilities, should he, by any chance, not be re-homed quickly.
Have had a quick look on the NCDL site and the nearest centres to Derby are......Kenilworth, Leeds and Shrewsbury

The RSPCa never put a good dog down. Some dogs have been there for months. can't you put an advert in the local rag for a good home?
I nearly got rid of my dog at first but I just couldn't do it. Since then I haven't looked back .Dogs keep you fit, you meet new people e.g dog lovers.

We got ours from somewhere near Leamington Spa.
Think it was NCDL
I'm sure if you have problems, they said to contact them first,
not get the dog put down.
Red Dog, sounds like the place you got him from need reporting.

Thanks to everyone. We are giving him another chance. I think he's sensed something going on and is on his best behaviour with all of us. I've heard good things about Jan Fennel as well and will definately have a look on her web site (thanks for the address!).
Anyway, I'm sure I will be back on here in a few weeks pulling my hair out again!!
Thanks again
Lisa (and Trev!!)
