Street lights - what do you think??
#1
Recently, our local council has decided to replace all the old yellow street lights on the main road near where I live, replacing them with the modern yellow/white (high pressure sodium??) lights.
At first I thought great, its like 24hour daylight now! But then I noticed the light emmited is the same colour and intensity as car headlamps. The road has several blind junctions, and at night you could easily and safetly judge and pull out by observing any light patterns on the road produced by vehicles (unless some twonk is running on side lamps - very common these days), now you can't tell, resorting to the old "stick your nose out" manouvers.
Also they are that bright you can's actually tell if your running on your main beams or just the side lamps - result is a load of people driving on side lamps totally oblivious. I admit to being caught once or twice - no-ones perfect
Just my thoughts are the that the old yellow lights are safer in my opinion. Anyone want to contest that view?
I beleive they use less electricity too and are easier to filter out by astrologists. Plus I think the contractors have botched the wiring, as coincidentally we keep getting power cuts at least once a week since .
