NRev - with respect, rubbish comment. With that attitude to the public i'd say it's a good thing you did find alternative employment opportunities.
Shell Plus Points is supposed to be a loyalty scheme, to make you want to use Shell petrol more. To be able to have points added if you have forgotten to take a non-essential piece of plastic with you would *help* that process.
As it is, the scheme can only result in frustrated customers, in my opinion. If i wasn't such a regular user of their Optimax, i'd have ditched this scheme months ago.

I must be using my loyalty cards wrong then, because I don't expect to have my points topped up without my card, who would, it's ridiculous? I'm sure when designing the scheme it never entered their heads to think "OK, some guy is going to fill up with fuel and ask for his loyalty points without his card, so we'll have to guess which account to add it to".
Hint: "loyalty" schemes are no such thing, they're a cheap method of collating data on your customers and a handy marketing gimmick.
Maybe I'm missing something, maybe you can explain to me, using a real life example, where you can have points added to your loyalty card without having the card with you, because I honestly just don't get it.
EDITED to add: and if you need that "non-essential peice of plastic" it's not non-esesntial, is it

Plus Points Schplus Points.
Is this the only scheme in the world where the machines are unable to add the points to your card if you forget it etc? In fact, Shell say that officially, if you foget your card, tough luck. In reality you can have them added if you can be bothered to send the receipt to Customer Services.
Do Shell distrust their employess *so* much that they have to make this scheme as user-unfriendly as it is..???
And can you check your points total at the petrol station? Nope.
And can you claim a cash credit for points at the petrol station? Nope.
Bunch of pants.

That has to be the worst complaint I've ever heard, do you complain to Visa that you can't use your credit card when it's on your bedside table at home?
People like you are the reason I won't work in customer facing roles anymore.

Maybe Phil has explained it better? If you take your reciept and card at a later date, it would be nice if they could add the points, but I still don't see it as an essential ingredient of a loyalty scheme. Besides, they will add points if you send them your reciept by post, they could very easily not bother doing that

Exactly NRev, that's all i'm asking for - a friendly scheme. For a multinational like Shell i'd have thought they could have been a tiny bit more flexible about how it is handled. Photocopying receipts and sending them off is a pain in the bum. In my cynical opinion, it's just a method of avoiding having to allocate as many points.
As has been stated, many loyalty cards allow topping up if you forget them. The fact that Shell have elevated their silly little PlusPoints card to the status of a credit card with purchasing power - how pretentious! In fact, not long ago, Boots refused to update cards from receipts, but such was the backlash that they relented and now give you 30 days. Seems perfectly acceptable to me.

Its all a load of tosh anyway these loyalty Schemes. Remember Esso. Unless you were a long distance Truck Driver you had to fill up at least twice a day for 10 years to get anything half decent.
I spent over 400 quid and received a Mug. What a bargain.
