Anyone else feel this way?
Lately, I've been wondering about what the hell I'm doing with my life. It seems as if I've just fallen into the trap of w*rking and just going out at the weekends, which is exactly what I was hoping to avoid
It's like, what the hell is the point in continuing on with a financial career I don't even want, then retiring at 60+
Am I missing something here? because people tell me that, that's life then you die. But in my opinion, that is complete tosh. They're taking the easy way out, and there must be more to life?

My boss told me to do a bungee jump if I'm looking for adventure in life. As if 30 seconds will keep me amused for 40-50 years
Anyone else think this way?

Take 6 months off - go and get ruined in Florida Keys/Las Vegas - come back to the UK - realise after 2 weeks its as crappy as ever over here - move back to the States and enjoy the finer things in life..
Hope this helps fella

Yes!
I was getting the "I'm in a rut" feeling after months, well years, of being trapped in a cycle of getting up at the crack of dawn, working a stressful job, coming home in the dark, quoffing as much booze as I could in an hour then going straight to bed.... what was depressing was that I couldn't see a way out.... until the company went **** up and we all got made redundant - although it didn't feel like it at the time it was the kick up the **** I needed.
Now in the process of setting up my own business, which I know is hard work but rewarding hard work. I now feel in control of my own destiny, I drink half of what I used to, my social life has doubled and it feels like a great weight has lifted from my shoulders!
If the business works out then great, if it doesn't then I will seek employment again, the difference being that next time I will have the perspective to spot the "rut syndrome" happening and the resolve to do something about it.
Edited to say I strongly recommend you consider all of your options - it always feels better when you can see a number of paths open to you with fallback plans! If need be take a decent amount of time off, it will help you see the big picture.

Yeah, As you said, spotting the rut opening is crucial. I think most people here (work) are stuck in it, and they don't even know it. So I'm glad I realise it before I waste my life away.
It's said a change is as good as a holiday. I've been thinking about leaving the UK to live & work in Scandanavia for a year, and stay if I like it. Hopefully I'll start rallying over there too

Damned if I stay in this country & work the same kinda job though!

Getting ther same feeling more and more often these days. I've even started making lists of varoius other careers I'd a) be happy to do, and b) would make use of skills I've gained over the last ** years. ttrouble is, none of them pay as much as I'm currently earning.

Some years ago, when my grandfather was living his last few days, my Dad gave me one piece of advice, presumably from what his Dad had said to him....
If opportunities come your way, take them. If you want to do things, set out to do them. You don't want to be lying there at the end of your days wishing you'd done things when you had the chance.
That's my philisophical output for the day

Oh, I'm not really complaining, just beginnig to realise that I am in a bit of a rut, and need to take a few steps to change my life/lifestyle. I suspect it also may have something to do with being outsourced last November, and not having had a 'proper' holiday since May last year. (if you exclude the odd days taking my Dad for various hospital appointments, and a week for OU exams)
Maybe I *need* to book another trackday
Or find a good woman

Same as me mundane life so I thought to hell with it and went and climbed Mount Kenya for charity. Secind highest mountain in Africa and bigger than anything in Europe. Changed my outlook on life totally. Came back and bought an STI8. You only live once.
Some good advice here
As soon as I pay off my 1 debt, then I shall, as Lmw said, start rallying in Scandanavia (even though Finland isn't really Scandanavia for sure
). It's like, I'm only 22. Why do I want to settle into a career like this so young?
If I hadn't bought that stupid car, I could have done that by now
Until then, I can only look forward to it.

get out there and enjoy yourself, if it means spending money you havn't got.... so be it.
Your a long time dead !!
People say to me "I aught to save for the future"..
BOLLOX.. I could drop dead tomorrow.
see the world and experience REAL life, not sat in staring at the box (or the bottle
) every night.

Crush..its sounds like your in need of a challenge, life is too easy.
) So to hell with changing jobs, i may as well change everything
Fuzz, I do like the idea of going crazy with money and buying an Evo 6 TME & a Focus RS, but what happens if I live till I'm 100 and still paying them off?!
I am having a similar crisis at the moment.
Got about two months left at uni finishing off a degree in finance that I really haven't enjoyed or worked for and having largely avoided working for the past 22 years!
Options at the moment are:
1/ Do a crash course in 'How to speak Iraqi', then get out there and seek my fortune.
2/ Go to America and get a job but probably have a similar existence to that of the UK.
3/ Join the RAF. Possible disadvantage of being killed though.
4/ Go to Scandinavia, Finland or Sweden most probably (or another Baltic country) and live the life for a bit. All those lovely laydees and snow and gravel to play on.
Crush, if you take up rallying expect to be skint! It is a drug. I wish I could be out there every weekend in a decent car, as it is, I get to compete on 3/4 rallies a year if I am lucky, in a tired old car.
Is it possible to have a mid-life crisis at such a young age?!! Arrrggghhh!

I tried living my life pleasing everyone, but you can't do it! Now I am living my life how I want to. Yep, I am a little perplexed as to exactly what I want in the future, but I sure won't let go any opportunity small or large that comes my way.
More to the point I am going to continue creating opportunities for myself and who knows Crush,....one day we may meet on a stage or two....

Good luck anyhow muppet, you know how to get in touch if need be.

You know being in a rut is an awful thing and as you get older things don't change that much... not really... the rut sometimes just seems to get bigger... by all means change your job... go after the 'thrills' for that momentary adrenalin rush ... sure there's loads you can do which will give you a new perspective for a while...
But the best and most satisfing thing you will find is when you do something for someone else particularly if it has the affect of changing someone's life. There are plenty of voluntary and charitable organisations out there crying out for people who could spare a couple of hours a week...you'll be amazed at how different you'd feel even if you were helping some kid to read once a week.
Why not give it a thought.

I often think that too,i wouldn't mind being a debt counsellor for citizens advice sometime in the future.
