9wk old puppy ill with mange.

The vets gave her a flea treatment last week because she was scratching a lot. That didn't work so we took her back to the vet and the vet suspects mange. Hopefully it is the contagious sarcoptic type (she's treating Thimble for this first) which is fairly easy to sure, but it may be demodex which is much harder to get rid of. Pup has little black heads throughout her skin, thin fur and small red pus filled spots (about 4 on the body at one time) on her skin.
The vet is a skin specialist and if anyone can cure Thimble, she can. I'm just sorry for the poor pup, and trying not to get angry at the breeder incase he really didn't know that he was selling a pup with this illness. Poor little Thimble. She's very happy though, apart fromt he scratching, and has eaten through the phone line to my pc upstairs, so we may have caught her in time to stop it.

Bad luck - hope the pup gets better. My beast has got a skin prob at the minute too. Started to go bald in a couple of patches and the skin became all inflamed. Seems he's allergic to something and if the pills don't work we may have to try a gluten free diet. That will be the postman safe then.
Got him weighed while he was at the vet - 9 stone and not an ounce of fat. Hope he does'nt get any bigger or it'll take 2 of us to walk him.
Good luck with the treatment for the pup.
Alas

Had my German Shepherd for just over a year. She had skin probs for ages, and stomach probs, spent a fortune at the vets, but since the last visit,we have put her on a Gluten/Wheat free Dried food.
Has worked wonders with the dog, skin is sweet as and so are the guts.
Food is made by James Wellbeloved. Its not that cheap, but well worth it

We feed my Black Labrador on that, and the Yellow one that's sadly no longer with us. She developed a skin complaint that had the Vets fooled. Lots of test, but no answers. Within 3 weeks of changing food, she was fine.
We also use Sulphur pills (for the skin)and Tabritis for the Hips.
Good luck!

James Wellbeloved is good, if that doesn't work then try Wafcol - http://www.wafcol.co.uk/salmon_potato.html it's the only one (out of many, many tried!) that agrees with our pup (well young dog now )

Yep, Eukanuba is good too - I have heard some reports of it making some dogs a bit hyper though, but try and see.
Eukanuba also do a special 'Intestinal Formula' which is fantastic for dogs with upset stomachs, allergies or gut problems. You cant keep your dog on it for more than 6 weeks or so, but it settles everything down brilliantly.
