Cool

Nothing! self defence is illegal in England!!!!

The attacker has the full force of the law on his side the victim has nothing and is more likely to get nicked than the villain.

Amount of force you can use is inversely proportional to the number of witnesses present.

It has been suggested that a maglite torch can be picked up to provide illumination, not merely as a weapon, and therefore you have a reason why you might have one in your hand.

Baseball bats/pickaxe handles do not have the same "get out of jail" card (pun almost intended)

Is pepper spray legal in Britain?

It is illegal to both bring pepper spray into the United Kingdom and to possess it. Individuals who are caught carrying or using pepper spray are subject to arrest.
What is legal......anything?

I say use what you want. Just dont stick around for the police and dont leave any evidence that you did if.
For real you cant do anything these days and if you did you will get nicked.

Of course the best deterrant would be punishing the criminal scum for their crimes, not letting of first time burglars for instance.

Punish the criminals and give the rescources to the Police to detect and catch them.

I think it is equal force - if the attacker has a knife you can use one too - if he has a gun you can shoot him - if he has fists then thats all you must use ........... I think thats it generally

Even a newspaper can be used as a very dangerous weapon if folded correctly.

my missus was attacked & mugged a couple of years ago ,she beat the **** out of them, but because they came the worse off , it was her that got arrested!ended up ok cos we threaten to press charges unless they dropped theirs! with that said, i rather go to court than take a beating , so imho **** em they get all they deserve.
also a can of Mr.Muscle can be very affective

Cool

better to be judged by 12 the carried by 6.

reasonable force is the answer which is ope to interpritation.

Best thing is to use an improvised weapon found at the scene of the fight..half a brick, umbrella..etc

on the pepper spray front..highly illegal...but throw sweetner in someones eyes and you have an effect is similar to mace!!

Reasonable force is something to be determined by you given the situation - it changes depending on the circumstances. Death may be reasonable if the threat is also death. It does not mean using the same as your attacker (as if you would be able to make that determination anyway) - it means 'at this moment, I genuinely believe that taking this course is the only way I can defend myself.' If you're a 5ft 16 year old girl being attacked by Arnold Shwarzenegger's bigger, harder brother then using a knife ven though he onyl has fists would probably be reasonable.

Also, the House of Lords made it clear decades ago that in the middle of a fight, you cannot weigh up the niceties of combat because you don't have time so there is some flexibility. If you genuinely think something is reasonable, then chances are a jury will too - they're made up of people like you.

Also, it is for the Crown to prove that self-defence was not reasonable, not for you to prove that it was.

Hope that helps.

dont use a 6 cell maglite as a weapon- its like weilding a baseball bat- ie. make sure you make contact or you'll be slapped silly before you get another swing!

i have a 4 cell in the car and its a good size for a torch and easy to handle.

P1 Fan, meant to say 4 & 6 cell, not 8 cell, do not know if they do an 8 cell.

I live in France- so I just buy the pepper spray at my local armoury, along with my extendable cosh and if I so desired a gun.
Thats why I don't live in the UK anymore- I find it too restrictive on my personal freedom

Paul - I wasnt having a dig, was just interested. I have a 3C and a 4D. Was looking at the 6D but other than for self defence it doesnt offer much practicality. The 4D is big enough and is an even number of batteries which makes it easier when replacing them

WD40 /De icer/hair spray etc.. ..Take the red straw and cut it down to about a inch long. Fit it into nozzle. Hold in place with Silicon/glue. Try it as see how effective the spray patern ,Cut straw to alter.

That is legal to carry and just as effective as "So called mace" etc.

Funny thing is I am such a soft b4stard but when under duress I just go for it, I couldnt live with myself if I didnt.
