Question

Needed to top up a car battery today, and used tap water as i had no distilled water. The battery and car are old, so no biggy if it is a problem, but can it cause short term problems using tap water, or will it just be long term plate corrosion thats the problem?

Only used a small amount for each cell.

Cool, its the missus's car and the battery has a sticker on saying re-charge by Mar 98 if unfitted, so I guess its lasted long enough even if it does damage it.

Or (if you have time) collect rainwater in a plastic container and use that instead.

better still, collect the rainwater then boil it, let it cool, add some crushed daddylonglegs wings (they hold electricity) and use that.
