My sony DVD (DVPS-536D) is refusing to acknowledge the presence of any disk in the tray. -Lots of spinning of the disk etc - but then "No Disk" every time.

Any thoughts on likely causes (I've had the top of and inspected the lense for dust etc) or suitable places fo a repair (Ipswich,Suffolk Area) ?

Many Thanks

Deano

Have you checked to see whether there's a disc in the machine?

Also, could be the laser alignment which any service centre could fix. Not a home repair

The strangest problem I saw on a CD player was one of my sister in law's hairs wrapped round the disc spindle. It flashed in front of the laser every revolution to stop it working - the player just thought there was no disc in there...

Took 2 minutes to fix, and it's been fine ever since.

I;ve had this same problem, with this same model. I "found" how to get into service mode and re aligned and refocused the laser. It now plays single layer DVD's okay, still has trouble on the second layer. I just watch DVD's on the playstation now. Got quoted about £80 by a sony centre to have it fixed

Dan,

Care to share the details ? I'll get a quote from a service centre first but may well have a go myself if its close to a reasonable replacment cost anyway.

I got the info off of "AV forums." There was a web page with how to get the thing into service mode.... I'll see if I can find it.
