Any landscape gardeners/designers on here?

Having had yet another argument with my idiot of a boss I am once again wondering why I waste my time working in an office all day long. So, if there are any self-employed landscape gardeners on here - is there plenty of work available? What is the average daily rate?
On the design side of things - can anyone recommend any good courses. Evening/correspondance courses preferably, leading to some kind of recognised qualification.
This is not a spur of the moment thing, but something I have been considering for the last 3 years. There are only so many times I can get away with telling my boss to "shut the f### up" so perhaps I should start making some plans.
Any advice appreciated.
