irish no plates ?????
#1
Wonder what the cheapest method off purchasing two consecutive numbered irish plates is ?? basicaly want to put one onto my bike and the other on the car hence the consecutive no`s required !! as my surname begins with the letter "HIL" and that I believe is an actual reg prefix for ireland ?? anyone recommend any cheap sources off these plates ?? wonder if the transfer fee is still in the region off £80 per vehicle ?? any help/advice on the above would be much appreciatted.
john.....
p.s due to the bike being an jap-import and already having been given a uk reg plate some years ago, is there a problem with changing to yet another plate ?? should be the same as import cars though, I would have thought ?? anyone been there-done that ??!!!!

Check out the DVLA website, if you but direct from them you avoid the transfer charge, min you can buy a plate is £250 and up all in.
As for putting these on an import bike I presume it works the same as cars.

I presume you mean Northern Ireland reg plates because Irish ones are set up as year, county and car registration number with an EU logo i.e if your from Dublin a recent reg would be 03 (for year) D (for Dublin) and 15236 (for example, for car reg)

You can't buy Irish plates from the DVLA.
I would buy an Auto Trader as this gives you listings and loads of phone numbers of companies in Northern Ireland that could help you.

I have tried to do the opposite, Transfer an english reg (held on certificate by elite reg) to a NI car, and to do this it must first be transferred on to a car that is registered with DVL (swansea) at an english address, then I can transfer it to my car at a NI address registered with DVLNI (coleraine) As far as I can work out there was no way around it so it made a 250 quid plate more expensive than it was worth, 3 transfers at 80 a time on top of the 250 quid (if I got a friend in London to register it on their car).
I assume it is the same the other way around, get the reg transfered to a car with a NI address then transfer it over to yours.

i got a Vil plate (just as a non dating plate) from the ads in Auto Trader for £69, it came from a dealer in Northern Ireland. He sent all the papers off to the NI dvla who then send them to the Newcastle dvla.
Still costs £80 for the transfer

Cheapest way is to got to a town in N.Ireland that does registrations (noting that each county/major town has its own letters) & re-register your cars to a N.I. address - also paying for the tax at the same time...
I registered a UK car over there as KDZ 8116 & if I'd let the guy behind move in front, would've had KDZ 8118 (2 cars)...
When the 6 month tax was up, then changed the log-book to UK. No transfer fee or anything...
Added bonus of "losing" 2 previous owners so UK V5 said "first registered UK" & my details...
The car ended up being towed away & sold @ auction from the guy I sold it to. It was shown as a 1992 (year of UK re-reg!), when in fact it was an 86! - hence it got £4k @ auction, not the £500 it should've! Don't know what happened at the end...
