Anyone into scuba diving

Hi
The stinger is a good warm water nitrox computer and I have a few friends who have one. You can also were it as a watch as well.
It depends what type of diving you are going to do....if you are cold water diving with a drysuit I personally think the display is too small.
I use a vyper which is a slightly larger version of the stinger which i use in warm and cold water. If you are going to just do warm water with a 3-5mm wetsuit then the stinger would be fine.
Try these sites.....

not entirely off topic but i bought a suunto watch for a mate whilst in US (had the lot, altimiter, etc, etc). Was a lot cheaper than UK prices but he has had nothing but hassle with it.
It may be a rogue one but you dont expect lousy build quality from a recognised sporting goods manufacturer

nearly missed this one
must be slacking
Suunto Stinger,
If you're planning to do a lot of UK diving the stinger does tend to penalise you if the water is cold.
next to my aladin pro it can add anything up to 10 mins extra deco on say a 40m Dive in cold water.
(means I have to freeze my nads of waiting for the buddy's computer to clear. Grrrrr)
generally a very conservative computer in my opinion.
Try asking this question on a news forum called uk.rec.scuba
available within outlook newsgroups or on the web via google groups
The above links for shopping are ones I would have recommended also.

lol, oh well.
It must be said that not many of our group like the stinger.
Ed,
I'm going up to Oban at Easter, diving the "Akka" .... again
If I pull another 45 mins of stops in that water I'm not going to be a happy bunny.

Thanks a lot guys, i started just needing a new watch, then i was going to buy this one, then i seen the stinger i went into the dive centre in Newcastle to get one and he said i didn't need one and showed me an aladin and kept pushing for me to buy it and wouldn't listen, so i left and still don't have a watch,
i usually just do shore dives so do you think it would be worth getting a stinger when i don't do deco dives?

I would steer away from watches, very small display and fookin difficult to read.
Stinger is the smaller version of the viper so If your set on a Suunto get the Viper.
Aladin is far the best display / easiest to understand / read on the market at the moment.
don't be pushed into buying anything you don't want, you're right to walk away !
I wouldn't go for the older aladin as they have a terrible reputation for errors when you hook it up to the pc.
the new type with infra red connection is reported to be much better. (no experience personally)
You will probably end up doing a nitrox course (but you won't know it yet as you have just started) so one with air / nitrox switchable would be the best bet.
don't be fooled into thinking an air integrated one is good, total waste of money, the information about air requirements are not of any use or remotely accurate (use your console for that )
Hope that helps.

Lot of peeps swear by the Aladdin though...... in the end you pays your money...
IMHO, Suunto Vyper is best dedicated scuba computer with both air and nitrox capabilities and the newest deco algorithms (wrt Aladdin). Had mine for 2 years and no probs. Look a bit weird wearing it as an everyday watch though........

If any of you want to dive around Guernsey & Sark I have excellent GPS numbers for 6 wrecks, a 32knot boat and a half a dozen diving mates if you need any info.
Type 'dive guernsey' into google for more info.
