Anyone know for sure what they are? They look like normal monitoring cameras but some people think they are SPECS cameras. Cant honestly remember what they look like so may go and have another peek after work.

Specs IMHO - so timing the journey between the two & if over limit its ticket time!!

Note that they are only "active" during roadworks time, which seems to be the week-ends only?

Look a seriously permanent structure though

Chris

I saw that too. I believe its the tax dodgers one - 2 cameras high up near the roof under an open flap

The "safety camera team" have a bright yellow van (LDV/Nissan?) but I've not seen them on the A14 during the day - normally can't get up to illegal speeds on the M11/A1(M) stretch

I'm fairly sure it was white, although it was dark and wet so couldn't make out any flaps.

Wasn't driving like a loon so hopefully the letter box will stay shut until Friday.

Can anyone confirm that SPECS cameras can't read square plates?

Deffo SPECS as I took another look last night albeit in the dark. Before there was only one camera a side. Now there are two which SPECS uses to judge your average speed. One is just off the slip road from Fen Ditton and the 2nd is on the bridge at the Milton (Tescos) junction. They have the specs logo on the arm of the post too.

There is a sign on them saying speed cameras currently not in use though. So might be a while before they are fully operational. No more blasts back from the Shell station next to Marshalls

Related Q - do you get camera vans in the Cambridge area on the A14?

Was heading down to Harwich week last Friday to collect a car with a mate. Somewhere on the A14 (between Kettering and Bury maybe) I went past a large Transit-esq van parked partially on the hard shoulder.

It had cones behind it and red flashing lights on the top like the Police cars use when they stop on the hard shoulder. I'm sure it said Police or something on the side but don't remember seeing anything on the back doors that might indicate cameras.

Edit to say - my Geodesy nailed all the GATSOs and Truvelo cameras spot on but I didn't get any persistant warnings that indicate SPECs systems. Are they quite new?
