Very Sad news. Mum and I were chatting about Barry on saturday morning (mum used to be into bike racing)
A truly great man, even more so when you consider all the nasty crashes he'd had.

Truely sad, a boyhood hero and an inspiration to millions.
One of the last of the true sporting hero's, not a squeeky clean single dimensional character ;ike so many are now.
Thoughts to his wife and kids.

I once owned his spare Daytona Beach number 2 bike (his first he crashed in the race if u remember and resulted in his famous "steel" legs ).... It put me on the road in business back in 1988.

I can remember seeing him years ago as a kid, was a great character and i find it very sad British racing has not had a gp winner since 81.
An even greater shame just hearing carl fogarty having a pop even though he's dead!!! If foggy had half of sheenes charisma he'd be a damn sight more pleasant!

Mellow Yellow -- you had his factory TR750? Wow, awesome machine ...
Very very sad, he seemed to be doing well against the cancer too. I remember him commentating on World of Sport in the 80s on the Yamaha LC championship ... his immortal comment was "this is really sorting the nutters from the headbangers"

Sad news indeed. To me as a kid he was the real 6 million dollar man with all his metal pins and plates and operations. A rare talent on a bike, and although I am a Foggy fan, no one will ever touch Barry Sheens greatness in this country.
A great loss to motorcycling.

Mellow -- that is one hot bike, I remember reading an article about them, the bottom end of the motors was pretty close to the GT750 Kettles but with a completely different cylinder block, with radically different porting.
I was lucky enough to see Barry at Oliver's Mount in '76, can't remember if he was on the TR or an RG, but the dice he had with Mick Grant on the H2R Kawa was awesome ... what a noise.
