Question

My two year old Sky digibox is giving up the ghost. Where can I buy a new one from?
Don't say Sky as they can't say what box I will get! I am after the new Sony one. The old one was not very good but they seem to have fixed the problems it had. I have been offered one for £299 from a place on the net. I have thought about Sky+ but that is £350 fitted, £10 extra per month and it will need to be connected to a phone line which is a bit tricky as there is no phone socket in the living room.

Anyone know anywhere else I can buy a Sony one from?

Cheers

Tim

On second thoughts, don't. I can't find any.

Buy what TV/sattelite mag or have a search online. Check your local satellite shop, I think the prices are rigged so you shouldn't get overcharged.

If I were you, I'd read up on it and perhaps buy a better digital receiver that can do more than the SKY ones.

This guy does them off contract for about 190 quid or so. Don't know if he does Sony. I bought one and had it shipped to Germany without any real issues. I've got his number if you want to call him, email me offline if you want it.

Try a bigger shop like Asda or WHS.

You may find they are disguised as satellite listing magazines.

I think one is called What TV and Satellite.

Cool

Cheers for the help guys. I've now brought my new Sony 760 sky box from my local Sony Centre for £249. Here's a pic..it looks good

It is so much better than my box. The signal strength had doubled already.

Thanks

Looks good. That wouldn't be an STRDB940 by any chance would it . Does the Sony Digibox have any additional features over the one you replaced ? There was talk when they (the sony boxes) first came out of a digital audio out that had to be disabled. Is there one and is it "live" ?. What box did you replace (Amstrad/Pace/Panasonic etc.) and is it quicker to move around menus load games etc.

So just a few questions then ....

You know your stuff The basic operations are the same as my old Grundig box but in a smaller slimmer better looking box. As to the digital out, yep it's got one and it sounds great . Played with the set-up this afternoon and if you put it in the TV input and select auto selection it will switch between the digital for Sky and the normal connections for other TV (ITV)

I have not tried any of the games yet.

The standard of the equipment is far superior to the free boxes given out by Sky. AS I said on my other reply the signal is over twice as strong and the quality has improved as well. Also the signal sent to my other TV in the house has improved as well through the TV link system. I also have enough Sky controllers as well

Was it worth the £249 (+ £25 for the optical link)...HELL YES

One other thing, I p*ssed off the guy in the Sony shop when I brought it..he has going to have it later that day ...too slow
