Cool

I've got a G4 466 and a G3 300 plus a PowerBook 5300cs. You could say I use Macs.....

Don't have the G's netted up yet, coz I use 'em for MIDI production and Hard Disk Audio & Video....

Toying with the new DVD writer 766Mhz machine. Goodbye Intel/AMD!!!

One happy Mac user (with a GeeForce2 GTS card in the G4!!!)

Dan

Markus, could you use a 1991 Mac Classic (was 4/40 but I think we added another 4 RAM)? I have one at home, perfect WO, system 7.0 installed (and it scrapes along, far happier with System 6) and I can't find anyone to take it off my hands. I think it's criminal to dump it but it is utterly useless without modern s/w, printer drivers, etc etc. Free to good home!

Oh yeah, I have an original copy of MS Flight Simulator 1.0 for it too!

Any interest?

Brendan,
unfortunatley our software's sys requirements kinda rule the classic out. sorry.

Don't dump it though, turn it into a fish tank, or a doorstop!

superblackbird, keep in touch. I'm in Portugal now but hope to be in Reigate, Surrey (where the Mac is) in the second half of September for 2-3 weeks. That too far for you to collect it?

I'm curious to know what you'd do with it, but if you break it for spares, perhaps I don't want to know! (sniff!)

Well all you Mac users I can help. As well as an avid Mac user I am a sales manager at MacWarehouse. If you need anything let me know. Nice Scoobynet discount applied of course ..

eg Techworks 256Mb PC133 DIMM £22 Scoobynet price. Ex VAT & del. ( Current price )

Mac user at home and work with a collection of Cube,iMac , Classic II, LC II and some G3 Powerbooks. What do you think of OS X ? Found it hard to get my head round, maybe just need to spend more time on this.

I am creating a collection of old Classic mac models. The Classic would be great to add to the collection.
Reigate is fine, I can just pop round the M25

OSX,lovely peice of software. Very nice to look at! Only problem is the total lack of applications out there, and the fact that even on a Dual 500 G4 it takes much longer to open apps than on OS 9.

Apparantly this is going to be sorted in 10.1. We will see, I have some Betas installed on my G3 and it seems OK!

I'm also a Mac user (iMac DV) and 256Mb of RAM is only about £32 at Novatech, shipped next day to your door, VAT inclusive.

Guess who is upgrading to 512Mb????? :-)

Thumbs up

I went all the way to Chelmsford about a week ago and got an Apple Color Classic in absolutely mint condition.
Also got hold of a 6100/60 72/20Gb/CD (the first PPC).

Got hold of a Performa 630 & LC complete setups with a LaserWriter IINT for £30! LOVELY!

Does anybody out there have an Apple Lisa for sale?

memory is dirt cheap, plus you can use PC memory. we found that a 133 chip, which a beige G3 should not handle, slipped right in and worked great, we've just got a stack of 256mb in so we can upgrade all the machines here, both mac and pc.

This is also the reason why my new pc has 512mb in it, it'd be rude not too. Plus I can always grab another 256 if memory get's too tight

now all I need is my Geforce 3 card and I'll have a nice little setup for UT (it's ok at the moment with an ATi Rage Fury 128, but I want MORE )

As for what mac, well, I've got a 533mhz G4 (digital audio) 128mb RAM (have not dropped new chip in yet ) ATi radeon PCI card, cos I'm running dual monitors, which is nice.

Plus got a little iMac (not sure on spec) sitting behind me running as an OS X Server!

then I've got about 10 or so other 'test' macs, so quite a nice little haul!

Plus the mac webserver and backup server

all in all, quite a few macs, but then we are mac software developers!

Markus does have a lot of funky GIZMOS surrounding him. I have not got a G4 yet! I still run the old beige G3, 400Mhz iMac and a well iffy 1.4Ghz PC running Win 2000 Server.
The beige G3 is running OSX 10.0.4

Not at the moment but might do in the near future. Fancy a PowerBook G4 but the G3 is a little more robust. I'll let you know if I do. The G3 266 is a bit flaky and the G3 250 weighs a ton, its quite quick but its not charging properly. Need to order a new battery. Bought my last PowerBook G3 400 with firewire for £400 !! Box was damaged in transit so we could not resell this.

Re OS X it s a shame so many things work in Classic mode through OS X which seems to hamper perfomance. As few native apps starting to come out like Fereehand 10 but Adone will follow with OS X native releases and theres also a new version of MS Office soon. Shame Quark users won't have any support as Quark 5 will definitely not be OSX native at launch and probably not so for at least 6-12 months.

OS X is, well, "interesting". I've played with it, and it is nice, but maybe a little un mac like though.

I get asked a lot about X versions of our apps and should people go to X. The bottom line is that most of our corporate and educational users won't go over to it until the apps are there, eg; photoshop, QuarkXPRESS, etc... OK, so you can run them in classic, but come on, you're looking at needing at least a G4 with 256 RAM to run X, and PS 6 and QX 4.1 at the same time, and in a publishing business you'd need to do this, so you are looking at new kit, just for a new os, I don't think so.

Must say that the Fire app (ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, messener type thing) is cute, wish there was a 9.x version.

At the moment my desktop is staying at 9.2.1, won't let X near it.

superblackbird - try ebay.co.uk for classic / old Apple stuff.

I got an Amiga 500 for £20 with Kick Off 2 and can't stop playing it, still hugely addictive.

im using a cube sexiest comp out i reckon but it has had a few faults like it started to switch it self on which is weird cozit dont have an on off switch as such then it wouldn't switch on at all but now all probs sorted and wouldn't swap it for the world specially for a pc lol
