I'm after a decent pager, that can receive text messages as well as numeric ones, but can't find any shops selling them. Tried the usual ones (Link, Phones4U etc ) but no-one stocks them anymore Vodafone on-line can order one for me but they cannot confirm a delivery date yet Has anyone here bought one recently?

I think only Vodafone support pagers now. With PAYG phones and SMS it just isn't necessary. ISTR at least Cellnet and Orange have turned off their pager support and given PAYG phones to the customers affected. Don't know if one2one ever supported pagers.

u can have mine if u like!! its a philips on VodaZAP. its small and has all the usual features. i know it can recive txt messages and i can send u a program that lets other people send u pages from their computers to u 4 cheaper.
thing is that they are expensive to send neway (the messages). i would suggest a mobile that way u can send them ur self.

That's the reason why I need a pager; I'm on call a lot for work and my mobile cannot get a signal in the pub

J.R-XRS, thanks for the offer but I might be able to get my boss to contribute to the cost of a new pager so I'll keep on at Vodafone for a delivery date

Why don't you divert your mobile to the Pub ?

We use Page 1 Communications for ours. We send out all our messages via the Internet too, so works out v. cheap to run Roughly 2000 messages a day.

Service is good & they'll soon be bringing in 2-way pagers. I can also confirm that coverage is good when I got a message when on the extreme north-west coast of the Irish Republic Not bad for a UK only service

Cool

Some people still need to use pagers.

If you work in a hospital you can't use (or at least shouldn't use) a mobile. Also if you work in an area where you can't get a mobile signal a pager is required.
