Question

Just out of interest and hypothetically - what would be the fine or whatever if you were found to have had an incorrect numberplate? Has to me more than £80 and I wondered if this invalidated insurance. And no I am not thinking of this as I don't go to London but just curious... DL

The next few months will be great............. Everyone trying to pay and cant!! The system getting bogged down.....

It will end up like the "Dome"!!! But they dont care. They just want to see the investment costs back.... Its going to be handed over to the police for many other reasons..

I paid this morning by phone, was on hold for all of about 30 seconds.

stupid thing is, I didn't realise i had to pay till someone told me..
I entered the zone before 7am to get some breakfast, then drove to my car park (just outside the zone) at 7.10. I thought you only had to pay on entering, not exiting during the charge time. doh! expensive breakfast!

You have to pay for being in the zone, not just for entering or exiting.

Apparently, there has been a huge increase in people stealing number plates. So someone gets their plates nicked and then shortly afterwards gets an £80 fine for not paying the congestion charge.

You have to pay for Driving in the zone.

Before you nick a set of plates of a dumped car etc.... Watch out for the first few months. On certain (Defo Holloway road) there will be stop checks... Watch out for them.

Apparently its a grand for the wrong / nicked number plate ... and probably invalidated insurance too.

Unhappy

100 million to set this "test" up, amazing where they find this money in the first place.
Can you imagine the nightmare for the people living just outside the zone, drivers blocking the roads and jumping on the bus to avoid paying the £5

So we pay £180? for road tax, £3.62per gallon of fuel (avg) which is taxed at around 60%, taxed on insurance, taxed on parts / servicing, pay to park and soon will have to pay to drive on the motorways with the new tolls - and we just pay it?

Now to make thing fairer on the honest motorist why don't the gvmt put petrol up to £5 a gallon and abolish road tax, congestion charges, toll charges so those who drive pay and those that have a car parked in their garage not being used to pollute aren't penalised just for owning one?

Hey Bob, there was no traffic for me either this morning.

That must mean congestion charging in London solved the traffic in Stoke too! Amazing!

OK - assume it is now common place for numberplates to be stolen or cloned!
.

I get done for a congestion charge but apparently I was no where near, no allaby because I was driving - just somewhere else, obviously it wouldn't be that unusual for me to have had my no. plates stolen - how do they prove it was me entering London.

They say the camera also takes a very high resolution pic of the car. It can read all the info on the tax disc etc .And other things like marks /stickers etc .

Not sure if this is true.

BUT if it isnt then 1000000000 should write in and contest the charge. This could cause havoc for their system

Also there is talk of extending the zone out to the North/south circular road!!!! So just about everyone in London will have to pay......

Ask them ..How much we have already paid in road tax etc??? What they have spent and what is left??? £££££££££££££££££ they dont need the extra money. They are OUR roads not theirs. The reason we have problems is because of a krap puplic transport system. To many road/gas/water/cable works etc than just go on for ever etc etc etc

I'm sure Mark Thomas pulled a scam where he got himself filmed on CCTV, apparently the council, by law, have to supply you with a copy of everything they have you on, should you request it. All you London villagers need to get together and demand a copy of all the pictures of your car, from every camera you pass, every day

BTW, the traffic here in Yorkshire has improved no end, thanks!

PS, I notice there was no mention on the news about buses being overcrowded / the underground not working Actually, that's summat else you could do, get everyone in London Village to give up their cars for a week, lets watch the Village grind to a halt

I think there is a £5.00 charge for it...But would be great fun. Once a month!!2000000 people write in!!!

re Mark Thomas - you can insist on seeing all data held by officials about you due to the newish Data Protection Act.

Doesnt matter whether its paper, computer or film.

You have a *RIGHT* to know. And they *HAVE* to give it to you within a certain time of asking.

Hehehehe
