Congestion Charges - How Will it be Tomorrow?
#4
Didn't they schedule **** loads of roadworks before the charges came in, which coincidentally were due to finish just before the charges come in? Thus Uncle Ken will seem to be right. Not looking forward to the Tube though when I'm next down there with work. THey've spent loads on upgrading the buses, though peeps like me coming in from outside London are not going to have a clue which bus to catch - wouldn't consider the bus for a second anyway. Surely it would get stuck in the same jams as the cars?
Once took a taxi from Park Lane to St Pancras station - taxi = 40 minutes, tube = 20 minutes (door to door).

My boss comes in via M4 to central London and he swears on his M3's life, that 6 months ago the traffic light sequences where changed to cause congestion inbound, he has bets now that on Monday the lights will be re-sequenced again so everying goes smoothly and that looser Livingstone gets the credit.
For me I get train and tube in to London, it's appalling and expensive, if it gets worse I will start to drive in and take advantage of the fact there will be less cars on the roads.

Isn't it half-term next week as well?
There is always less traffic on the roads on school holidays so no doubt Ken will think he's done a great job with the Kengestion charge

RB5SCOTT, Tony Blair was heavily opposed to Livingstone being Mayor. It is Livingstone who has implemented this.

Being as I drive for a living I spend a lot of the time listening to the radio. Friday on Talk Sport motoring slot Ken Livingstone's deputy was on, she admitted to the country that congestion charges are in the Labour Party's white paper. She also said that any City Town wishing to introduce these charges will get the backing they require. And she will be standing at the next election against Livingstone under the Tories. The Tory Party will not scrap these charges nor will Labour. So you cannot blame Livingstone for this mess. We voted this party in and we can vote them out but who do you replace them with, I beleive we get what we deserve and thats the price we must pay. We have no voice to stand up for the people.

The Gov want it to fail to get rid of Livingstone, but they also want it to succeed as a model for other cities around the UK.
Rock and a hard place. That's why they are keeping pretty quiet about it ATM.

<off topic> when I lived in London I used to listen to a radio staion called GLR - is it still going, or has it been renamed. They always had "red-Ken) on whenever they could for a good old barney.
Reading all this stuff about transport in London, I am glad I now live in the wilds of Neasden.
Is traffic going to actually reduce in the medium to long term?

Well I didnt get my white van into the City any quicker today, but I was £5 poorer. At least you can join the 150,000 other people who have lodged an official complaint at:
https://www.cclondon.com/WebCenterBr...x?PAGE_TITLE=C
I also pointed out that there are no more bike parking bays for the environmentally friendly bikes (which I commute on sometimes) and thousands more bikes/scooters scouring the area for them.

How far do they have their heads up their ***** ?
here is their official reply when I complained that there were no additional parking spaces for motorbikes:
Dear Mr DanTheMan
Thank you for your recent enquiry.
The aim of the congestion charging scheme is to reduce congestion within the centre of London. Motorbikes and other two wheeled vehicles were given exemption as they cause very little congestion. During the planning of the scheme it was estimated that very few people will begin to use motorbikes as an alternative mode of transport, preferring to use the improved public transport system. Because of this the parking bays in London have been left untouched.
The scheme will be reviewed on a regular basis and if we believe the demand is there for increased parking spaces in the zone, this will be met.
If you have any questions, please contact us on 0845 900 1234 or visit our website www.cclondon.com.
Thank you for contacting Transport for London.
