The only one I know of is Potton
They do tend to fall into the twee with little gergian windows category.
A friend has virtually finished buildng one and it looks fantastic. Potton will customise it to your requirements. How you finish the outside has a much bigger effect on the style IMHO than the pure design.
I would be interested to know if they are able to increase the window size or whether the effects the structure too much. I know there was an extra window added to our friends house.
I have some details from 6 months ago. What size house do you want, I could scan and mail you some stuff if you want.

Good budget planner on there as well.
Now to find a good bit of land. Hmmm, 5 mins walk of Man Utd maybe.... same as the cheap 350k 2 bed apartment (flat ) that I looked at on friday....was very nice though

Who stole the wheels off that caravan
Amanda
There are loads of kits around - Border Oak, Medina Gimson for example at the traditional end, Scandia Hus and loads more modern ones too. Do a search for self builds. There is also a self build association which you'll find.

Wow, thanks for all your replies!
Will do a bit of reading later. I reckon land will be fairly difficult, but maybe planning permission will be even harder. Specially if I go for Derbyshire. They want twee cottages and that's that. I wish Britain was a bit more adventurous in the architecture that's allowed
Charlie Whiskey....it was the Quay side development...the penthouse flats were £750,000!! She'll ring me when they become availablle
Guess I will be staying in Sheffield tho unless I can find someone to share the mortgage with. Told my partner I wanted to move there and he said go on then! On valentine's day too Think I'll trade him in for a different model
TaviaRS.....Ooooo how exciting....."gulp" Best get the car back from Aylesbury soon then.....need to practise a little

Sal, yes, like the look of the m-house....even tho Dave T-S does think it looks like a caravan . Thanks for the ideas tho Dave
Wonder how much it will cost? It seems like there are not many if any companies out there that are currently selling almost assembled kits like that, tho a few are planning to in the near future. I will keep searching tonight.
Jon, the tithe barn looked very nice, but dont want as big as that, and would like something more contemporary. I reckon you would suit it tho, give you something to do instead of all this shirking and skiving

Should be more thorough in looking at sites
Good that m-house doesn't need planning permission.
Can't believe that it would go on water!
£110,000 to £148,000 for a caravan tho
Love the funky kitchen lights and the placement of the clear window in the bathroom
You can also have a printed aluminium exterior....you could have fun with that!
Wish I still lived near Canterbury, I'd take a look at it. Thanks for link Sal

Meant to add it is a fabby barn and I am deeply jealous, the walk along the landing seems to go on forever! I'm pleased to say that I was the first person to be sick in the guest bathroom upstairs

We moved in at the beginning of September. The pic above was taken a few weeks before it was finished. After three months of graft landscaping the front garden/fitting garage doors/bathroom fittings/light fittings etc most of the major jobs were finished (by us Sal )just before Christmas.
Just now got to landscape rear garden/build a workshop, oh and rip out the kitchen and replace it because we don't like the one the builders fitted!
Sal - LOL
You forgot to tell me about you throwing up! (Actually, i'm surprised you can remember The bottle of JD is still here awaiting your next visit

LOL @ Scoobychick!
Think I heard about that party Chris
After it happened, unfortunately
Dave, is yours an individual self build? Thinking of going down that route if can't find a suitable kit. Yours sounds lovely by the way.
Just can't bear to think how long it will take from original ideas, thru to architect plans, then planning permission, and then the actual build. Was yours a long process? Did you get knocked back at planning permission stage?
I'll stop pestering you in a bit, honest!

LOL - mention a party, and Sal, Chris and 'chelle suddenly appear

It was built by a small local developer. They started off as an architects practice, but decided to build their own houses so they have total control from start to finish.
The site was an old farmyard with two falling down barns on it. They got permission to replace them with four houses, and another four round the outside, behind ours.
The four round the outside were built first, from kits, but the company that made the kits went bust before they started the second four (including ours). They then decided to build the remaining four from scratch.
Work on ours started in late 2001, the frame went up around Christmas - so took 9 months to complete! They aren't the quickest builders, but i've had five new houses and the standard of finish and the hard landscaping is miles better than most things we've seen or lived in.
The construction is strip foundations, brick plinth, concrete beam and block floors, softwood frame of 100x50 studs with plywood cladding, breathable membrane and weatherboard cladding with 100mm fibreglass insulation. Inside is plasterboard.
The left and right ends of the roof are prefabricated trusses under slate, and the centre where the large glass wall is, is open from floor to roof peak - a 20 foot high galleried hall, 28 feet long from front to back and about 10 feet wide. It's a huge waste of space but gives the house a really nice open feel.
In the top of the vaulted hall are two big old oak roof trusses from one of the barns on the site - non load bearing, just for decoration.
All of the downstairs except the kitchen/utility are floored out in maple planking.
I'll post a few pics of the interior when I get a moment!
It'll be nice when it's paid for
