Bad news on Gran Turismo 3 A Spec...

There's a rumour going around they've cut the F1 cars from the European release version.
I seriously hope this isn't true, just so they can hit their deadlines (July 20th)

PS: In case anyone didn't know, GT3 in Japan includes some hidden F1 replicas of all Senna's cars, but without livery as they don't have the licences for them.

Just seems a shame - the UK market is bigger than Jap an US market, yet we get screwed with delayed release dates and 'letter box' size screens, to compensate for the UK machine running slower than the US one.
Don't know why I'm complaining - I bought a US machine to overcome the above.

This is interesting as I thought the F1 cars were a 'prize' of sorts for wining certain things. Pretty sure that the faq on granturismo.com mentioned this.

Dario - EXCELLENT!
Markus - yeah you have to 'win' them, but I was told they may be dropped for the Euro release. Thankfully Dario knows different.
Picked up the GT3 A-Spec box in Electronic Boutique yesterday, mmmmmmm, nice...

Basically, US & Japanese consoles draw the screen 60 times a second and that screen is smaller and therefore quicker to draw compared to the larger dimensions of the European TV screen (PAL)
The result is that the US and JAP versions of games run smoothly at full screen, but when they do the conversion to the European version (PAL), the quality suffers and we end up with a slightly slower (jerkier) version when compared to the US version. Some poor conversion even reduce the size of the PAL screen (letterbox effect) in an effort to draw less information and keep the game speed up.
Hopefully the programmers who've done GT3 A SPec will do a top notch conversion to the PAL version and there'll be very little difference.

NTSC uses 525 lines, 60fps (interlaced)
PAL uses 625 lines, 50fps (interlaced)
The letterboxing is normally due to not increasing the screen size (ie drawing 525 lines on a 625 line screen), plus laziness!
However, MOST TVs build recently are perfectly capable of dealing with an NTSC/PAL60 signal, hence the '60hz' test on dreamcast games...

Popped into my local Electronic Boutique this morning to reserve my copy. Spoke to the manager who thought he was officially 'the' dogs bollocks and he smirked and said "I've been playing it for a while" in a kind of ner ner ne ner ner voice. I had to leave my number, so got my card out and said "If you ever want to drive a real one of the cars, come and see me"....
I laughed like a kid when I walked out of the shop as clearly he was bemused. A woman looked at me in a weird way as I was practically crying.
lol
Should be ready on the 20th, if not I will post the store I went into and we can go and Mug Trevor, my local store manager.

how does dario know for definite? Is he the guy that works in the industry?
Also, ronnie, well done mate, I love doing that! May give it a try myself tonight!
The Secam version available in japan uses a screen refresh rate of 70Hz so is even faster which is cool.
All my previous consoles have been jap, but I finally got sick of not knowing where to get games from and japanese instructions, I plumped for a ps2 from the uk, but am beginning to regret it as I could have had the games ages ago.
Incidentally, someone has offered me a all regions all discs adaptor for the ps2 for £20.
Anyone know how and if these work?
Dario?

Daz, that is great.
Can anyone comment on which is the best way to go in terms of setting up the dvd player for mutli regional access?
I already have a top line sony multi regional player, but cant watch the new enhanced regional block discs such as charlies angels.
Dont know which thing to choose for ps2, and dont want to have to send it away for chipping.
Perhaps this disc and memory card thing?

There's good news for owners of the Guillemot Force Feedback Steering Wheel, the PAL version of Gran Turismo 3 is compatible with the wheel. So no need to splash out on the new Logitech wheel. According to a post at GranTurismo.com the wheel works fine with the only problem being that there is no button to change the camera, but as there's an option to set the default view in the menu it shouldn't be an issue.

GT3 wheel = Logitech Force Feedback wheel, with a few tweeks here and there.
If you already have the Logitech Force Feedback wheel (usb) for your PC, it *ALLEGEDLY* works with GT3, as some of the guys who had the Japanese version have confirmed this.

And for anyone who hasn't preordered yet, tesco.com have it on sale at the moment for 31 quid delivered.
Not bad at 15 quid of the high street price.
They tend to ship preorders before the release date too
Andrew.

Excellent andrew, just ordered mine from there.
Thanks for the tip.
Been reading up on this region x, region free playstation mod.
It seems a bit convoluted to get it to play.
Basically I want it set up to be region 1 all the time. Does anyone know if, once enetered, the machine will saty like this, or does it need to be switched over everytime I switch it on.
I just cant seem to get a response from it!
